I used to model quite a bit before I got married. The last model I built was a Tamiya 1/12 JPS Lotus. I really enjoyed the larger scale and I was wondering if Tamiya still is the best in large scale F1 models?

I would like to start modeling again and a Ferrari F1 in 1/12 scale would seem to be a nice re-introductio.

    Any suggestions?

Tamiya continues to offer 1/12 kits. However they are all reissues. Last new one was the Williams of Nigel Mansell! Try the new Revell 1/12 F1-2002. It is pre-painted which might be a nice way to start again. Those of us who are really serious strip off rhe paint and start over but in your case try to find one with a good finish to start then simply polish it out. This kit is simpler and less detailed than the Tamiyas but give it a try. It builds into a very nice current model.
    Hope this helps.

Yep- Revell offers the only new thing in 1:12 scale injection molding.

A website I enjoy greatly is

    http://www.modelersite.com

You can sign up and get a monthly reminder when the site updates.
Search the achives for lots of info and tips. Some of the builds shown are fantastic. Lots of F1 builds in 1:12 scale.

If you want a challenge the resin kits in 1:12 scale are much improved & the selection is greeat.
But they are nothing like a Tamiya "shake the box" and a model pops out.

Tamiya make the best models in nearly all scales, including 1/12. A nice modeling forums is on automotiveforums.com under Auotmotive Art, but most of the builders there are kids who only Asain imports. There are a handful of guys who build quality reproductions of racing cars.
