Well...the folly of (older) age I guess. Just picked up my 348TS from the shop with a brand new Larini + hyperflows and then spent a mind numbing hour thrity in traffic. Holy cr*p is this exhaust loud. Forget having a stereo. My ears are still ringing. I did notice a significant performance increase....throttle response is quite sweet...and hearing the bubble an spit as you back off is fun...but methinks I can't live with this exhaust. Short of putting the old muffler back in...any suggestions?
Ear plugs? Sorry to hear mate. But really, sorry to hear. I put an XOST on my 348 and I LOVE the sound. Its not too loud, not too quiet. I think its just right. Perhaps flog off the Larini and try another system? Probably lose out on some money for the Larini, but if you cant put up with it maybe its time to try something else? Id love to swap ya, but I love my XOST. Can you post a vid or something so we can hear what she sounds like?
Thanks for the moral support Pap.... I've got to go back to the shop and pick up my old muffler tomorrow, but am pondering whether just putting the old Cats back on might help take the edge off... A mate has also suggested, get a pair of hotdog mufflers made up in lieu of the Cats....hummm.....
When I first had my 348 decatted and a tubi installed and drove it home I ended up with a big headache. Car sounded great but my head was punding after spending 1.5 hours in the car. The sound does lessen over time though. Either that or you become more deaf and it doesn't bother you so much.
I'm already somewhat deaf ...too many hours piloting turbo-prop airliners in my younger days... The car as it currently is...in your face...very LOUD. Standing still and reving it to 6-7000rpm is like being trackside with a V8 supercar....certainly demands attention! The hotdog muffler sounds like the best move for now.....watch this space
what u gotta get is the Capristo twin sound. with the valves closed it sounds stock with no drone at all. you can drive around with this exhaust and u will never get a headache. When u open the valves it is straight pipes and the most beautiful sound in the world. Loud and F1 like. Ive got one worth 7.5 k with test pipes and ill sell it for 5.5 k
Thanks Paolo....but having spent $5k on the Larini and Hyperflow's I'm not (yet) looking to swap out the whole system. I have to say the low growl of the Larini is amazing...I really like the tone...but the volume..aye carrumba...
Motorcycle baffles, available on ebay. One in each tip. They work great, and are tunable. Tack weld "nibs" on the outside of baffles for force fit.
Maate.....I'm deaf enough as it is....plus the (fun) police here can issue $500 on the spot fines. Decided to put the stock system back on, keeping the hyperflows. Look for a (used once) Larini 348 exhaust on E-Bay soon Yes..I'll even ship to the USA...
shame that larini is like that. the capristo twin sound is the way to go. let me know if u want to do something with the capristo or put a spider muffler on (single can) i think i know someone who has one. mine isnt for sale. my spider sound would be perfect for u.
the twin sound is the best. if u drive normally it sounds very quiet. but when u push hard on the accelerator the valves open and its seriously F1 sound. or driving normally its equivalent to a stage 1 capristo and with the valves open its almost a stage 3 you can set the remote control when ever u want the valves to open or close. ask rudy he should know all about these twin sound capristo's stage 1 louder than stock but still pleasant to drive stage 2 the sound is more lighter and more solid than stage 1 stage 3 a very aggressive sound for motorsport
I searched the forums before installing a Larini on my 355 (it also has Fabspeed headers and Hyperflow cats) and those with it on the 355 said it was actually not that loud at all and actually not much louder than stock. Maybe the 348 is different? My car is still in for service as I am also having the seats redone and the sticky parts un-stickied but I did hear the car at idle with the Larini and it was not much louder than stock (a bit louder directly behind the car) but I have not heard the exhaust yet under normal driving or at higher revs. I hope I don't regret the swap.
Definitely louder than stock. A big performance boost as well. But the wife says the Larini has to go....so it's for sale...I'll take some happy snaps soon and put up some deatils.
