Thanks, I’ve read up quite a bit and family connections have been helpful as well, there’s lots of anecdotes arising from Vegas, right back before Benny and right till the 90’s. I still bump into the odd old time mob guy out in downtown hanging out

Did you know that the guy who plays the Don in the Tropicana Mob show is a one time hustler and button man, now an actor having done some time and been let out. The name will come back to me later, I have his book somewhere. His dad was a famous rodeo star back in the day

Rose Marie, I saw an interview not that long ago with her, how she was always looked after and played ‘for the boys’ at various casinos. The outfit guys liked her and kept her around and in work. She always had a job, somewhere on the strip, thanks to them

Absolutely, and trying to demonstrate to the gaming board he wasn’t in control, he was just an employee. They saw through it of course, but it didn’t go down well with the boys in Chicago, and they were torn as to what to do about him as he was a great earner and had a lot of friends there, but between his antics and Tony spilotro burgling and killing everything in sight, it was the in your face mob antics that was bringing massive heat on the bosses from the FBI. Ginger was also a concern, especially when it reached the bosses about the ant playing with her too. You can have a goomah but you can’t mess around with another mafiosis girl

Just a little more info. The one in the foreground (right of the Sahara) is Thunderbird Downs (1963-1966) and the larger track in the background is Las Vegas Park which lasted all of 13 days in 1953. Then you have the ill fated dog track, Las Vegas Downs that came and gone 1981-83

Thanks for posting that film Bob. When Janet and I were in NYC last Xmas there was an exhibit way downtown of some color 8 mm film shot through a windshield by a woman artist (can't remember name). Mostly downtown on Fremont St. and surroundings and at night. What's fun is to see many of the old neon, some of which is preserved and can be seen at the Boneyard, which is kind of a disappointing show in that it's barely 20 minutes long. The technology in the LED projection to bring the old lights alive is interesting, and perhaps as they raise more money the program will be lengthened.
