Can anyone in Vegas tell me about emmissions testing and performance mod effects? I have a CS that I have Agency headers and catless pipes for. Will have the tune done as well to match the new exhaust set up. However, I think the car will not pass an emmissions test in Vegas (where I plan to move to at the end of this year). I'm thinking I might be better served leaving the car stock so it's not an issue but I really would like the extra sound and 30hp. I'd appreciate any inputs. I haven't had to emission test a vehicle since '94 so it's been awhile. lol

    Hi

I live in LV and have had my 360 smog tested here 3 times. Passed all 3 without issues.

Mine is stock with aftermarket muffler only.

They only hooked up to the OBD - no sniffer tests were done.

I don't know if your proposed mods will cause the test to fail.

You might talk to Rich Kansky the service manager at the dealer
(Penske-Wynn (702 - 770 - 2000) to get some help. Rich is the ultimate good guy.

Be sure to check out the local scene at ferraricluboflasvegas.com

Welcome to LV - hope to meet you soon.

I agree with John. Compared to California, NV is a lot easier. I have never had an emissions problem. I have a 2001 Maserati with a Tubi exhaust and it's always been clean.

You go to a kiosk (a guy in a little shed-like place -- usually in a parking lot somewhere near the DMV) and a guy plugs into your OBD port under your dash. They do a quick inspection under the hood looking for some stickers. They ask for your registration.

They don't stick anything up the tailpipe. If the computer says "OK", you pass. It cost $20.

From there, you can go to the DMV for a safety inspection if it's your first time registering the car in the state. It's at the DMV. They look at safety stuff (lights working, seat belts, check the VIN -- stuff like that.) It takes about 5 minutes.

I have no idea what you would do it it says "fail" though. For that, you would need to contact Rich and see what he suggests.

For renewals, it's even easier. When you get your notification, they ask you to get smogged. You go to the same guy in the shed again and when you pass, it's immediately in the DMV computer. Then all you have to do is go to the a DMV machine in a grocery store, scan the notification, put in your credit card, it you get your sticker. It takes about 1 minute.

One trick --believe it or not-- is to go to the DMV early on Saturday morning. I've found out it has the least waiting time. The people at the LV DMV tell me the same thing.

    Good luck on the move!

Very good info. The only problem you may run into is related to the cat bypass pipes. If your check engine light is on, they will be forced to fail you. If you get an ECU tune that turns off the rear o2 sensor monitoring, you may bypass the CEL issue, but they will probably see that all of your monitors are not active. I recently set up three 360 CS's with full systems (including cat bypass pipes) and we finally found a setup that kept 6 of the 7 monitors active without a CEL. The particular state where these cars were from, Texas, required that no more than 2 monitors were inactive to pass. You may be able to find the details of the test on a NV DMV website. Please let me know if you have any questions or if you would like to do a similar ECU upgrade for your car. Thanks!

thanks you guys for your help. i already bought the headers and catless pipes but they may end up in the classified section here. I'm thinking that leaving the car stock might be the way to go till I get there and see the octane of fuel among other factors.
