Looking at going to vegas next week for fun. Hard Rock Hotel lookas appealing to me, looking to go for some partying. What else would you reccommend? I am on somewhat of a budget, Hard Rock is only 99 a night. What else would you suggest to do while there?

imperial palace is the best its only 29 per night

    the real players stay there.

the only problem with hard rock is its off the strip I just got an email from the belliago for 149 water front. sun thur thurs if you are going during the week. I would say, there the best and thats a good deal. hard rock or the palms for partyin. if you are truely on a budget! then, i was just joking about the imperial, it is a crappy place and real cheap the only thing good is its right in the middle of everything. ive only stayed there once a long time ago, and your not going to sleep anyway. so dont spend your money to sleep! and if you stay at hard rock add in taxis (or limos) to the strip if thats where you want to go.

I stayed at the Stratosphere the first time I went b/c it was dirt cheap. I had no problems whatsoever with it. You did have to take a bus if you wanted to get to the main part of the strip, though. I would imagine you'd be able to get a 50 or 60 dollar/night rate there.

Last time, I stayed at Caesar's. It was incredible. I got a comp rate of $59 per night, and we got upgraded twice to an unbelievable room. After that experience, I'd spend the extra to stay at a nicer hotel if they give me a discount rate. I just got the Bellagio comp too for lakeview delux room at $139 Sun.-Th. I'm thinking about that if I go back this summer.

Do a google search for LA Times Vegas Hotel deals or something along those lines. They usually publish a weekly list of the special rates strip hotels offer.

Go to shows, check out the Hoover Dam, get a players card at every casino you visit/play at. There are zillions of things to do in Vegas besides gambling.

I'd recommend staying on the strip. Easier to get around, unless you don't want to walk. Hard Rock is nice. I stayed there a year ago. The younger crowd was a relief, and better looking also :) . Stayed at the Monte Carlo a few months ago and it was nice. They have a really nice bar there. I have to agree that you shouldn't worry too much about the location, you're gonna be up most of the time.

Hard Rock is not that far off the strip - great for partying. Palms is also good - both just off the strip. I dont think you need to go to the strip if you stay at either one of those. The other fun one is Mandalay Bay - its got the house of blues and some good clubs. Good restaurants too if your into good food. Aureoles and Red Square are both great.

It depends on who are you going with. If you are going there w/ your buddies, you can stay anywhere, and just go visit other casino.

If you are going there w/ the important opposite sex, Bellagio, Paris, & Ceasars will do fine. Mirage, Luxor, NY NY, & Monte Carlo are fine, but not that great. MGM is too big to move around for my taste.

It also depends on your past experience, too. I was so impressed w/ the Plaza, the first time I stayed in Vegas, but now I am not impressed that much. (but I do still have fond memory!)

You can rent F-car if you win!

The rooms are small, the casino is dead and the food is mediocre. Other than that, there are 50,000 other choices!

The Venitian has pretty large rooms (the largest in LV when built, maybe still). It is also nicely located between The Mirage, Caesars and Paris.

also, the IP (Imperial Palace) has a mini museum of cars. Haven't been to it since '91 but it was cool. I saw a ZR-1 and some unique old cars. They also have a cool poolside Hawaiian luau every Tuesday, I think.

edit to add: notice the liberal use of the word "cool"

Yes, that is correct. THe venetian has the biggest standard rooms, and also the most luxurious too IMO.

If you want to get rooms comped out based on gambling play, Id stick to the less prominent casinos like Aladdin. (I stay there because I get treated like a king there....penthouse suites,etc..., but I am a small fish if I go to Bellagio or Caesars).

IMO the Imperial Palace is a dump. I stayed there for my bachelor party, worst mistake I've ever made in Vegas.

The Hard Rock is great for the scenery, the music, and the casino, but is too far off the strip if you like to casino-hop.

The Mandalay is very nice, but has the same too-far-off-the-strip problem.

I stayed at the Aladdin once and got a suite, nicest room I've ever had. I had a great view of the Bellagio fountain.

My favorite is probably Ceasers, just because it's Ceasers.

Luxor is ok if you stay in the pyramid, just to see the sloping windows. But once is enough. The walk from the elevator to your room can be L O N G.

I like Bally's. It is connected to Paris via a small mall like walkway. Ceasars is right across the street and so is the Bellagio. If you use a Comp card, Bally's, Paris, Caesars, and the Flamingo are all owned by the same company and take the same card. The Flamingo is next to Bally's as well. You can charge to your room at most places at other owned casinos.

The steakhouse at Bally's is excellent.

I have stayed at the MGM - it is big! I liked it, but if you split up with your party, it could take days to find each other.

I was just there last week. Stayed at Aladdin, nice place. The (free) car collection at Imperial was decent. A Porsche 934, 901, and 356, a couple of rally Audi's, Ford RS2000. Lots of cars you wouldn't normally see on the street every day. Most of them are for sale also. Worth a look, and you can get a free coupon from their website.

The Luxor is not that bad if you upgrade your room to a mini suite with a hot tub.....They are nice. The Venitian is awesome, but costs a bit more. I was at a trade show two weeks ago. The show package included two nights (for the show) at the Riviera. This is the worst dump on the strip! Needing to be close to the show, I immediatly checked into Circus-Circus next door and was pleased that the rooms were not that bad! At $59 a night, it was a good deal in a larger than expected room (Bring your own coffee maker!).

When booking a room (anywhere), know what large businesses are in the area and ask the hotel for a corporate rate under that companies name. In Vegas, ask for the IGT rate. For an example, I stay at the Westin at LAX and ask for the Raytheon rate which is $69 a night Vs the average rate of $169-$199.

Back to Vegas, my theory is that if you are in a gambling town, don't scrimp on the room. You will blow the difference at the casino!

I just got back from the Bellagio a few hours ago and I must say that I was very impressed with the room there. Since it was my first time playing at that casino, I initially paid for the 2 night stay, but after some time at the blackjack table I got the room comped back. If you're interested in staying at a more upscale environment and gamble a bit, I'd suggest to go there. They're also a part of the MGM Mirage group so that's a plus if you want to switch casinos. :)

I take back my imperial comment, riveria is the worst hotel in vegas I stayed there three years ago, everyone looked dead, no kidding, dead.

    Bellagio is the best,

Advise: dont get greedy, have a big bank roll, last time I went, I got greedy, lost my big bank roll.
but what a ride, is it sad when your up 5k from 100 dollars in 30 minutes you start to think what will 5k really buy me? nothing so I need more.

    good luck
