    Hello,

I recently changed my motor mounts and I had to re-adjust my shifter for proper engagement.

I made a simple laser adjustment setup using a cheap laser pointer for cats.

I started by unscrewing the shift ball and taped the laser pointer to the stick. I then put the car in third gear and turned on the laser.

I taped some white cardboard on the inside of the roof that the laser could project on.
I put a mark when the stick was centered in the third gear slot. This would be my reference mark.

I then proceeded to remove the shift gate which allowed me to move the stick left and right while still in third gear. The idea is that amount of movement both left and right of my reference mark in the cardboard should be equal = the shift fork is perfectly centered between the two L-shaped shifter things inside the gearbox.

At first the distance was not equal so I went under the car and tweaked the alignment of the rod by rotating the shift shaft lock nut (see red circle in the image).

Once it was centered I tightened it up, double checked that nothing had moved and removed the laser and reattached the shift gate+ball.

I found it helpful to do it this way but perhaps I was over complicating it. :)

May be you were slightly overdoing it.....;) Anyway I'll give you praise for your innovative engineering.

    Best, Peter

I figured I could measure much more accurately with the laser pointer projecting onto the inside roof instead of fiddling with a ruler directly at the gear stick. :)
