On sale in Switzerland, French import sticker, TR wheels, front and rear side repeaters, what is the story with this car? Is it a US car (then better sold in the States?), was it federalised, or do they do side repeaters in Switzerland too? The interior looks as if it has had a long life.

The B in the VIN indicates "LHD, Europe." Although I did read somewhere that it may have been in the US at some time.

What type of owner(s) would allow their dash leather to get THAT bad ?

I heard that TR wheels were a factory option for the 512M, do you confirm ?

It’s true that the TR wheels were an option for the M, also according to the M catalogue.

If this is a Euro car, originally supplied to France by Charles Pozzi, it has definitely been Federalised with its side repeaters. As Ms are worth so much more in the US, that then begs the question of why it’s being sold in Europe and not shipped back to the US, assuming it has already gone through federalisation. Something that comes up with a lot of ex US cars in Europe is bad carfax, the car can’t sell well in the US so it’s shipped here where many buyers don’t know about carfax, I have also seen salvage title US cars being sold in Europe as clean ex US cars. But this is the first time I have seen an ex US M (albeit not one of the plated 75 US cars) being sold in Europe.

Not saying this is the case with this one, it may just be an M needing some TLC, but this is a car with a story to tell, and it’s not just the one about the tired interior.

my guess is that it was a euro car that was imported to the usa, and then came back.
probably is/was owned by a guy who did not take care of it, so there is some evidence of abuse.

btw, a car that has been federalized no longer needs to have that process repeated if somebody wants to import it into the usa again.
however, the duty paid the first time, only permits duty free entry if it is returned to the usa within 3 years of its last departure.
so, if this car has been back in europe for longer than 3 years, it will have to pay duty again to go to the usa.
personally i dont think it will go back to the usa. it will simply be sold in europe and considered a bit of a bargain.

It would be interesting to know what Carfax has to say about this car. If I were considering bidding, I'd definitely want to know. Does Carfax dig up records on cars that are no longer in the US?

Anyone planning to import into the EU will need to pay VAT in the country of destination.
