Hello, I just ran across this online article tonight (http://www.drbeasleys.com/blog/2011/10/17/the-last-308-ever-built/). I'm thrilled that it's on the road, but I find myself doubtful as to whether it really is the last 308 ever built. It's a GTS and the last GTS I have ever heard of was VIN 59265. It was speculated to have "never left Europe and reside in the private collections of some of the original executives/family members of either Pininfarina or Ferrari. Some have written that the last 308 GTS was possibly VIN 59261. Any thoughts? Choakchai
I suspect it means the last US 308 rather than the last worldwide. Even when talking about Italian cars Americans have a habit of forgetting about the rest of the world Jonathan
59265 Is listed in Raab's book as the last official 308. But there is chassis 59273. A LHD Swiss 308 QV specifically it is ZFFLA13S000059273.
I suppose another key would be to look at the assembly number crossed with the chassis number too yeah?? PDG
Thanks to Bigodino for pointing me to this thread, as there was a comment on the website of the article mentioned by Choakchai, which says that I have owned 56265, the last official Ferrari 308. So, just to make it 100% clear: I have never owned that car or any other Ferrari ...
From what I have researched, I believe this is it. I just acquired this car a few days ago. 1985 308 GTS QV Swiss market car with VIN 59265 and assembly number 1279. 9,744 on the odometer. Image Unavailable, Please Login
the last glass 308 the last carbed 308 the last carbed dry sump the last 208 the last 2vi the last turbo the last qv. Then decline them in all colors, B and S models, USA and Europe market (maybe also the swiss market...), LHD and RHD and we have a lot of last cars! Without any joke: congrats with the two last QV owners. ciao
If you don't mind me asking, how did you find this car and did the seller know it was likely the last built? Good find!
Thank you. To answer the original post: This is reported as THE LAST 308, not just 'the last' of any sub-category...and yes 59265 does exists. Ironically, contrary to speculation...the car immediately left Europe for the U.S. and has been residing in a garage in New York for the last 13 years....a real 'barn' find! Although there is mention of 59273 which falls outside the reported production range...it has an early build date of 4/1985 and an earlier assembly number.
It's a long and interesting story... One I don't have time for right now. But yes, the seller did know about this being the last. Again, it's ironic that this car has never surfaced, but ended up in the hands of a car guy who self proclaimed 'these cars are not his thing'. Therefore this car has been sitting collecting dust for a long time.
Alberto...with 149.000 euros, call "Jean Lain Vintage" in France, and you can buy ZFFCA20S000083136 which is unquestionably for sure the last 328 (a GTS). (if we do not include the "Turbos", because then you would have also 83137) Rgds
Unfortunately I already spent all my money in the restore of that blue scrap and I have another scrap awaiting for restore, so I'm out ... ciao
Congrats on picking that car up! I knew that car existed from a thread about it on here a few years ago.
I suspect the same with the 308 in the opening scenes of Magnum. That car was the starting point for so many, yet no one knows where it is. I have always thought it is sitting in a garage somewhere and the owner has no clue. I really believe that.
Here she is; waiting patiently, as she has been doing for the last six months. No takers at 165.000 and no takers at 149.000 either. One thing is sure, 83136 IS the last 328 ever built (if you discount the "Turbos"; conting the "Turbos" in, it would be 83137) Ferrari 328 GTS Voitures Savoie - leboncoin.fr Rgds
It's stamped into the frame in the engine compartment on the drivers side right next to where the coolant reservoir is mounted. It may be hidden under a 'paint flap'. Also, it is stamped on the underside of the front hood.
I don't think that is an assembly number. I believe it's a chassis number stamped when it was fabricated. Probably a sequence too but not necessarily corresponding to the position on the assembly line. I would imagine the assembly number is the last 5. Mine is 50045 so 50047 was just behind me and 50043 the one in front.
Yes, my bad...I have seen this referred to as the assembly or chassis number, but 'chassis' would be more appropriate. According to a (long) previous thread about this, It is the sequence of numbers assigned to the chassis build...not necessarily the car production. Although there appears to be a strong correlation.
