If you like the following, it could be a good gift that you can get almost anywhere at the last minute. Tell me if this is going to fly:

I picked up an extra gift for my sister, her husband and their two (grown) kids. The gift was a $25 gift card for:

    1) Home Depot (For brother in law)
    2) Cold Stone (For Niece #1)
    3) Olive Garden (For sis)
    4) PF Changs (For Niece #2)

The object is to guess what store or business the card is for in the least amount of guesses based on ten clues given to each gift card.

The gift cards are sealed within a folded over piece of plain white paper and the edges are stapled closed. On the front (of the folded piece of paper that has the gift card stapled in it) is written ten clues as to what it is (They know it's a gift card, but have to figure our where it's from based on the clues). For example, my sister (Holding my Niece's Cold Stone card) will read the clues to my Niece. Note that my sister (along with everyone else) knows where the other persons gift card came from. The person with the least amount of guesses made before giving the correct answer will get an additional $50 that I included in the package. If these are ties, they split the $50.

Yes? No? Will this one go over well or will it be a dud idea?

Gift cards are thoughtless and impersonal no matter what, unless that person isn't important to you...........

A couple of years ago, my half sister said her kids wanted the Willy Wonka movie, being the good uncle I got them the DVD...so did their grandparents & other friends. I think they wound up with four copies. This is why I like the gift cards better, in fact I bought two of them from Best Buy today, it makes it easier than getting someone the wrong gift.

In most cases, I hate gift cards. They ARE impersonal and would never be the 'main gift' (Unless the receiving person REALLY wanted one!)............But at least YOU read the thread and noticed that it was an extra gift :) There are times though (for the 'difficult' person) in which a gift card may be your only option and the person receiving it will be 100% happy with it.

I have a few friends that only buy VISA or AMX gift cards as gifts and the people receiving them are totally happy...........and not judgemental.
