I guess Im in the minority who thought the movie was much overhyped and under delivered. Christopher Nolans take on Batman does not do service to the Batman character or the villains and is a bunch of style over substance. I want to see the comic book hero I grew up reading about and this is not it. Just stick to the comic book origins and write the movie in a way that mirrors the comic book, its not hard. The Avengers was a very simple concept but I saw the movie a half dozen times because they gave me a believable version of the characters, and they stuck pretty closely to the true storyline. The minute I see Batman driving a non-batmobile, with invented characters like Morgan Freemans, seeing key villains killed off like Harvey Dent, and no Robin, it is clear that I am faced with another set of Batman movies that miss the mark
+1. TDK was brilliant. Nolan is a genius. I can't wait for the conclusion of the trilogy. I don't expect TDKR to surpass TDK but I expect it to be second best in the trilogy. I've been waiting 4 long years for this. I hope it doesn't disappoint me like Prometheus.
I can see what your saying but Batman no longer lives in the '50's thus the character must also grow and transformer with the progession of society and technology. If the original Batman was thrown into todays society he would be another episode on '48 Hours' or 'Law and Order", you live or die by society's rules.
yup... this^ couldn't agree more. i will say that Prometheus was as good as i expected it to be but fell short of what i hoped it could be if that makes sense. i kinda figured out most of the plot based on the trailer (don't you hate it when that happens?) and had an idea of what to expect going in. it fulfilled that well, it just never strived to be anything more than that, unfortunately, which is what i was hoping for
Well that was a useful post... I would agree that the character needed to be changed if it was impossiable to create a modern version of Batman that was still faithful to its roots, which is not the case. Heck, Captain America is about as old school as you can get, but the movie was pretty accurate to the story and yet still enjoyable. If Nolan actually spent more time bringing the comic book to life than createing his own vision the end product would have been much better and actually make sense. The truth about Ra's al Ghul past and explaining his connection with the Lazarus Pits would have added deepth to his character. The Scarecrow character in Batman Begins was a joke and not even close to martial arts expert/sadistic psychological demon he truly is. Morgan Freeman's character should not exist, and actually takes away from the fact that Bruce Wayne was so motivated and intelligent that he created nearly all of his own weapons. Michael Caine makes a great Alfred, and Bale is a good Bruce Wayne. However, Bale is not nearly as good as Batman. The Batman voice he has created sounds more like someone who's throat needs more water, and the fighting scenes are just plain bad. Batman is one of the best hand to hand fighters in the DC Universe, so you almost need someone like Scott Adkins or Jason Stathem as a stuntdouble to give believeability to the scenes (Batman's fighting should be that amazing). Joker made the Dark Knight what it was, Bale was overshadowed in that movie the same way he way he took the backseat that same year when he tried to portray John Connor (if you saw the movie you know what im talking about). Joker is the top villian and should not have been sharing screen time with any other villian, especially during his first appearance, no one else comes close to the danger he presents to Batman. Two Face was wasted, the insanity of going through the long process of tearing down Harvey Dent and having him reborn as Two Face (Aaron Echart was great) just to kill him off was insane. It was kind of interesting that the Joker won in the end, something that breaks the laws of Hero-Themed Comic Books, that alone was worth the price of the ticket. Lets not get out of hand. I will grant you that Batman Forever is on my shelf, due in large part to Jim Carry's Riddler, but Batman and Robin was so bad that you cannot even speak of that movie in a comic book store unless you are making reference to how bad it was.
i think you are sort of missing the point of the Chris Nolan batman movies. the idea is that this a completely believable (albeit a bit far fetched) universe. batman, at least from what i've seen/read, in the comics was very whimsical and campy. i think the reason the Nolan batman movies are so popular is that they got away from that and did "realism" not only convincingly but also made it enthralling. in TDK, i felt compelled to find out what the joker was going to do next. not many other movies have such interesting characters. and while i see your point of view about batman becoming a secondary character, sometimes that's necessary for the plot. as long as it's done well, and i feel it was, then that's not a big problem imo
With no disrespect intended it seem's you are ALOT more into comics than I am, heck I have not read a comic in probably 40+yrs, but too each their own.
Could not agree more with this. One reason that the new James Bond movies with Daniel Craig are so successful in that they use an tough guy everyman in the lead role instead of an effeminate character
+1, the new bond movies have been great imo. Quantum was not nearly as good as Casino Royale but it was still a good movie. although the tech and the stunts are a bit of a reach, they are way more realistic than many (if not all) of the previous films in the series. the fact that sam mendes is directing the next one (Skyfall) has me very excited. he's one of my favorite directors and i can't wait to see what he does with the next installment. when i heard daniel craig had been cast as 007 in CR i groaned but i honestly believe he's turning out to be one of the best "bond's" since Sir Connery. don't get me wrong, i love the old ones just as much as the next guy but that kind of movie just doesn't sell well in today's world with today's technology and social setting. just like batman, the bond series needed a true reboot in which the character was taken back to the drawing board and recreated from scratch. it worked well for batman, and it worked great in the bond movies. these are, of course, my opinions and everyone is entitled to their own. just saying how i feel about it
Just watched Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Very good movie. The realism of the animated characters is incredible; far better than Avatar.
"Mommie Dearest" from 1981 I seem to recall liking it "back in the day".... Oh Vey! What a bunch of SUPER bad acting! Jedi
Dark Knight, thought it was good and worth the watch though a bit long. FYI, no need to watch the credits, ie no teaser afterwards.
The latest batman. Really good, almost 3 hours long. They made it quite realistic, not too cartoonish like avengers, IMO. Also, first time bag,an actually makes an appreaance during the day!
La Casa de mi Madre with Will Farrel speaking spanish throughout the entire movie. Worst movie ever made. Totally unfunny. AVOID at all costs.
The land of blood and honey. Pretty gruesome, at moments a bit lengthy but overall very good. Who knew that Angelina isn't just another pretty face?
whats in the box? After all that, I dont know whats in the box. Other than that it was great. I thought it was very realistic, and I enjoyed the driving from the BMW and Audi.
ah... i guess the point is it doesn't really matter; what's in the box is not the story. the car chase scenes are fantastic tho
saw batman. pretty solid but not as good as the second one. Bane's ending could have been done so many better ways and throwing the girl in at the end didn't work for me either. Overall a good watch
