And when he goes to heaven to Saint Peter he will tell "One more Marine reporting Sir, I've served my time in Hell".

Thats too bad, I remember I thought the movie "Windtalkers" was pretty good. Very smart move to use them too, I think I heard the enemys still dont know what they are saying even today, I could be wrong though.

I actually think it was both Europe and the Pacific they were used to talk in.

    Very interesting.

Did they simply converse in the language, it being so obscure that the enemy could not decipher it, or did they need to send the language in code as well to add an extra layer of security?

IIRC, and that's a big "if," They used words that were translated into english, and the first letter of the english word signified a character in the message.

I saw a documentary on it a while back, my memory of it is a bit fuzzy.

My Grandfather was in the second wave @ Iwo Jima. I have no doubt that these brave men, whose decendants were Americans before America existed had something to so with his safe return home.

Wow, I just re-read this post. Of course, I meant their ancestors, not their decendants.

God Bless your ancestor, grandfather, and all his contemporaries for what they did at Iwo Jima and everywhere else. If those guys hadn't had the cojones to do what they did, we might not be sitting here F-Chatting now.
