    Hi all,

Gary is selling his Tapestry that he had in his house and had it professionally restored a couple of years ago.

This is a nice piece of the history of it (please read below)

    The size is 121" x 162.5"

A Flemish (possibly Antwerp) mythological tapestry from the “Story of Achilles” series, woven in the second half of the 17th century, envisioning a scene in which Achilles’ mother, Thetis, comes to Hephaestus, the Greek god of smiths and metalwork, for armor to protect Achilles and prevent his one weakness from being exposed in the Trojan War. In the scene, Hephaestus has finished the shield and headpiece, and is now hammering a gauntlet into shape, while his apprentices forge more iron in the kiln at right; set in a forested area with large trees, acanthus plants, grassy hills, and various flowers.

    59k or best offer.

Since I'm not in the market, just pure curiosity, it's meant to be hung or is this a rug?

My guess would be hung... typically back then, that's what they were intended for. Perhaps they just laid it out on the floor in order to get a wide enough angle for a full view from upstairs?

Plus, in the close-up shots, it looks too thin to be intended to be used as a rug.

Gotcha, makes sense. But! Would be baller to have a $59k rug to wipe your feet on though.

It was museum mounted on a wall previously,( Velcro on the back side perimeter) then put in storage, and laid out on the floor for photo's . Definitely a wall hanging, but could be walked on if you wish, but I don't recommend it.
