I made a set of switches out of aluminum for my dentist's car... Added an extra rib and enlarged the pivot point support. I also made a plug for injection molding new plastic switches. I would like some feedback if a set of 4 for $200.00 works. The red/blue dots (temp) and blend markings will NOT be on my finished product. If you do injection molding please feel free to contact me. Not very many of the cars were built using that style switch...check out the pictures attatched.

I'm confused on what the final product would be. Would it be the aluminum frame and the plastic frame, without the lever, or is the lever part of the assembly too?

My intent was to redesign the under side of the switch body. Made 6 out of aluminum...my set of 4 and 1 for my closet...The 6th one was for a plug for a mold. The stock lever and cable holder fit and the face is exactly the same. The under side has an extra side between screw posts and the pivot point is stronger. Stock bases split down the center or pop the pivot hole out. Look at the aluminum bases in this picture ...you can see the extra rib and the support around the pivot hole.

OK, I think I get it. Would a satin black anodizing be possible?

I was able to get a set of OEM parts just a few years ago- so I think the replacements ARE still available..

But $200 for four better quality parts is a deal!

I would agree, it's about 50% less per unit. I've replaced my OEM levers twice in the past 14 years, the first time when I bought the car in California and the levers probably almost never had been used in the heat setting in the car's life and about 3 years ago when the plastic flanges that you touch when you move the levers broke. They cost $92.00 each then.

You can improve the longevity of the levers by moving them up and down a few times each time you drive the car, particularly if the car goes through a whole season on the same setting. Also, it helps to make sure that the heater control valves on the firewall side are lubricated from time to time.

It seems a lot of the interior/exterior components were Fiat or Alfa sourced. Has anyone found that source?

Does anyone know how to contact the original poster FSC-Mike/Mike Grieco? I've pm'ed a couple times about these aluminum levers. I could use a set. Or does anyone know another source for the OE units? I need at least one vent controller and one temperature controller, to replace the cracked ones in my '83 400i.
