That's pretty slick but usually they'd spoof the URL too. A WHOIS result for bestspeed.biz.ly doesn't get any real results. A tracert to the same resolves to 64.136.24.162 and the WHOIS for that results in "!a".

The "Email the seller" link goes to http://bestspeed.biz.ly/PageAskSellerQuestion_VIShowCoreAskSellerQuestionrequestedddysangels9iid3.htm

Normally that link will go to something like this http://contact.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ShowCoreAskSellerQuestion&requested=dandm-motorsports&iid=110045406418&frm=284&redirect=0&SSPageName=PageAskSellerQuestion_VI

Have you reported this to eBay?

 

I ran a NeoTrace to see if this went to Nigeria or some off the wall country and the last connection resolves out of Los Angeles

I may be missing something. When I click on it, it goes to an eBay site (or at least, an eBay URL) I can't tell in any fashion that I've been redirected. Also, when I performed an item number search off of the real eBay site, it still goes to this auction....has something been corrected by eBay or am I still missing something?

I'm asking these questions because I want to make sure what tell-tale signs to look for in future auctions

 

When you click on the link, http://cgi.ebay.com...... URL comes up, then about a quick second, there is a white blank-screen flash, then bestspeed.biz.ly..... is the final URL. You are now on a fake/mirrored website. Everything looks just like an Ebay page except the PLACE BID, BUY IT NOW buttons are programmed to redirect to somewhere else. The page is designed to take your money and run!

 

Either it was fixed or the scammers got better and masked the URL too now because it still says cgi.ebay.com

 

Yep. That's what I found. AND, an item number search on eBay motors goes to the site......

 

I just clicked on it and it went to the faked site, I can see it in the address bar in my browser. This is the page that eventually loads....

This same thing happened to me with a Yamaha Rhino this morning that has since been removed. The seller changes to gizzypig1 from another seller listed, and some other subtle things as well. I only realized what was happening after I tried the back button on my browser and it kept refreshing to the new site.

 

the counter at the bottom of the page also remains at '0001'...

 

I tried to buy it on the fake site. just to see if they were asking for password and user name, because that would be smart, but it doesnt work the fake page!

 

When you open the link in a new window, after it redirects you, you will notice that your browsers "back" button is lit up and active.(If it only opened one page, it would not, nothing to go back to.)

 

It redirects you to a different page now...here's the link to the current page it redirects you to

I get redirected. I can watch it flip. Good to know. It's easy to miss if you aren't paying attention.
