    Good news is that Niki is back home to continue his recovery. Considering the damage to his lungs back in 1976, I imagine that it had to play a major role in their failure all these years later. The movie "Rush" certainly made me appreciate what he went through back then. The actor playing Lauda stole the movie for me...I felt like I was meeting Lauda as he might have been in those days. And I always liked his driving skills and his intelligence. As someone else here always says, "Respect the Rat"...and now Welcome Home.

    Great news! I graduated from high school in 1976, and so the Hunt/Lauda epic was from my last quarter in high school to my first semester in college. It was only the second or third season I really followed. :)

    I have the Rush DVD and it is amazingly good.

    Lauda aims for Abu Dhabi comeback

    Niki Lauda has targeted a F1 return for the season finale in Abu Dhabi later this month.

    That is the news from the beleaguered F1 legend and Mercedes team chairman's friend Bernie Ecclestone.

    Ecclestone, the former F1 supremo, says 69-year-old Lauda telephoned him after leaving hospital following a lung transplant.

    "He is doing well in the circumstances," the 88-year-old told the Swiss newspaper Blick.

    "He said he feels much better and just has to take a lot of pills and be disciplined."

    And Ecclestone said Lauda, who is now in rehabilitation, is targeting a return to the paddock for Abu Dhabi.

    "His secret plan is to be back in Abu Dhabi," said the Briton.

    "It's incredible what Niki has had to go through. He does not deserve it."

    Another of Lauda's best F1 friends, Dr Helmut Marko, said he hopes Ecclestone's news that the Austrian could be back in Abu Dhabi is right.

    "I would never have imagined it," he told Bild newspaper.

    "He always sets himself a goal in his head and goes about achieving it," Marko said. "That's typical Niki Lauda."

    Very good!! but wait...I saw another Niki interview in which he said he didn't have any friends. Maybe he's becoming a softy after that lung transplant.

    He looks a little puffy but I'm guessing that is from the medication to prevent tissue rejection...now he is a puffy rat. His voice and spirits sound good and it will be great to see him back at testing next year. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but did the Mercedes turn around begin in earnest when Niki came on board?

    "According to information from "Krone", Niki Lauda is back at intensive care (hospital) due to a flu. The flu could be problematic because Niki‘s immune system is still weakened due to his previous operations."
