    Road&Track sez the new 997 Turbo is good for 2.6 0-60 w/launch control. Is this as tough to engage as Ferrari's, and does it hurt the clutch?

    I've launch controlled a 997 coupe but not the new turbo. Still, it's the PDk transmission. It's as easy as hitting the button on the dash, foot on brake, floor the accelerator pedal and letting go of the brake when you're ready. Don't know how that compares with Ferrari's version.

    I read somewhere that Porsche's engineers claim the cars can withstand as many launches as you can. I'm not sure if there is a warranty expressed or implied somewhere in that, ha!

    Nissan GTR launch control usage = Voids warranty
    Ferrari launch control usage = Undue wear
    Porsche launch control usage = Everyday

    This was true for all the F1 gearboxes but not the new dual clutch systems. If you wanted to launch a 458 all day you could. It even learns how to launch best. If you did a launch at the start/finish line on a track and came around and did it again the system would be able to go even faster. Amazing stuff

    I've used the PDK's launch control in Turbos and Turbo Ss, perhaps around 15 or 20 instances in total. Simple to engage. No muss, no fuss, no strange scents coming from the transmission.

    I do not doubt the 2.6 seconds to 60. Some surfaces permit maximum grip and that number is repeatable in the real world.

    The Turbo S is the fastest accelerating car I've driven. Period. You guys should try it!

    It is an amazing car, I was offered one, and if it was 10 years ago, I would have jumped at it (though changed it to RWD), but I said no thanks. I am just not it that much of a hurry to get to 60mph or anywhere else for that matter any more.

    When I picked up my new C4S on European Delivery in the summer of 2009, the Porsche delivery person told me it is spec'd for 1200 launches.

    There is no warranty clause on launches.
