I love my Thinkdiag, but it will expire in July 2025, so I might as well buy a Launch while they are on sale. There are so many models, how do you know which one is the best one for a 2009 F430. I also have multiple Porsche's, Mercedes and a Lexus. Which of these would be best? https://www.amazon.com/LAUNCH-X431-Pro-4-0-Bidirectional/dp/B01GRN4BRQ https://www.amazon.com/LAUNCH-X431-PRO-Bidirectional-Automotive/dp/B0C6GKSQ8K Or is there a different model I should be looking at on Amazon?
This is what I have, and it's not sold on Amazon anymore. That price is excellent. No affiliation, proceed with care. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Corey I can easily say you are not buying any more software functions for the Ferrari f430 over the thinkdiag2 installed on an android ( iphone loses some functions) - I cannot speak for all the different brands but I think that is how the programming model is designed so if I had to guess I would say the same for most other brands. What you would get as you go top end is a different dongle which allows for more ECU programming functions etc. As you move up the line, you get a more updated android /faster tablet, accessories, some aux functions like battery tester, borescope, topology scanning , VAG guides etc.. i call them frills but may be important to you . You also get remote control type feature ( i can take control of your tablet from a website - used it to help others ) .. cool feature on the tablets vs the thinkdiag2 I think this is a good middle of the road launch tablet https://a.co/d/hlmRFGU Autel and Launch use a different software base and like how steering reset only works on autel - i find the autel has some items that are listed on the launch but actual work So a thought would be renew the launch diag2 for cheap and try have another tool in the toolbox that may have functions that the launch line does not - one car can be as cheap as 30 .. and the full line is 99 That being said the Autel model uses a different programming method - the higher the model the more functions ( e.g. special functions for f430) are included .. I really like the OTOFIX ultra ( Autel underneath) but it isn't on sale today ---this is definitely top of line and even has older 360 coverage for some stuff https://www.amazon.com/OTOFIX-Ultra-Diagnostic-Programming-Bi-Directional/dp/B0CFKR9HML/ref=sr_1_1?crid=26CYYD9FAICUI&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.XKlIV-Bp6S8odiRDuLCfdelzxGIPfuuwdKZ7OKyFGUMklb1f7a90mT61vQdfshGEDL48-NRSpFpl9hjksFFvAd9SAP3XqKYxDT2OtWWKMl-R3CdJBEvOrJt4rW1icn6BbXhDbbkniIy0izu44BLjPQJgmDcE8JWq_y2DsoksNEMVCLDt8WNMi6XRAOZl1msOth7rokti2Ntp9kBAxwMyeSzK3v9iOhPWbPSizXJAt3dJb2MifBYBqlLbs-ovOkYj.9_g6qByU_KeC7Glq0fbN3u-qBPLpmB78AjI7hJ20aK4&dib_tag=se&keywords=otofix+ultra&qid=1728488574&sprefix=otofix+ulta%2Cautomotive%2C271&sr=8-1&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.17f26c18-b61b-4ce9-8a28-de351f41cffb If you want to chat about this - you have my number - hope that helps
Patiently waiting for the one that can deep dive into the little bits like the Leonardo can. Such as the option that allowed me to change the clock from 24hr to 12hr format and swap from F1 to Manual. Didn't @360trev say he was developing something that would be comparable to the SD3 tools? Hoping that is around the corner
If that is true... I will wait with the hope Trev has something ready by the time my Thinkdiag expires next july. @flash32 What features are not available on iPhone vs Android for the Thinkdiag?
It's easier, I was just going to take advantage of a sale. My decision is made, I'll wait to see if Trev has something coming, if not I'll renew the thinkdiag in about 9 months.
Perfect timing, I am currently looking into adding a scanner to my arsenal. I was looking at the XTool D7S and D9SPRO, the launch will certainly be added to my list. Any of you guys familiar with the XTool scanners?
I can now unfortunately confirm (after speaking with x431 reps) that no models of the x431 can access or support the steering angle sensor calibration on the 360.
I'm sure. I bet I could get a $100k premium on Bring a Trailer right now if I listed that The funny thing is that I researched that topic for maybe a year and the only info was that one person heard from another person that it may be possible with a leonardo but nobody had done it. Only took me a manual conversion in order to be able to find it.
Apparently not? Although I swear mine started off like that but magically switched over. Either way, the darn thing is faster than the car itself so I just leave it off.
Anyone want to buy my LAUNCH X431 Pros Mini (same functions as x431 V+)? I find myself not using it as much anymore.
No, I had meant the 360. However, that was before I found that that the 360 indeed does not have a steering angle sensor. I had been looking to tightening the nut on my steering column to eliminate the dead spot, but had heard one persons experience of doing this on their 360 and then having issues with the ASR light coming on, and I was under the mistaken impression that I would need to reset the SAS after making this adjustment. So I was wrong. Now I’m hoping I can tighten it without causing any CEL issues.
Ah, I see. Yes, go ahead and tighten. Take it easy at first until you've gauged the effect. A small rotation goes a long way.
I have such a tool which has been custom developed and manufactured for Cambio Manuale (Dr S) https://cambiomanuale.com/ in Europe and which I have been using for a few years, recently including it with the 360 gated conversion kits being sold. It is similar to Leonardo/SD3 in a way that you can for example convert the instrument cluster between F1 and manual. But it also has additional capabilities beyond what Leonardo/SD2/3/X has - for example it allows to automatically read the ECU software image, convert it from F1 to manual (or from Manual to F1) and write it back into the ECU. Or to virginize a 360 ECU etc. I'm too busy trying to meet the demand for gated conversion kits to spend any time on it beyond what I need for the conversions, but if anyone is interested to give it a try please ping me off-line. Note: in order to not help too much other companies which try to catch up to Cambio Manuale gated kits, the ECU F1-manual conversion is only available as part of the complete kit and is not provided if the tool is sold separately.
Happy to say that I have this a go last week and the dead spot I had accepted as “normal” is now gone, and the steering off center is much smoother. Every input produces a linear and expected effect, unlike the feedback up until this point. And as expected, no lights or errors! A few minutes well spent!
Sorry if this has been covered before, but is this also the case for the F430? Are there any features that the Launch can access (like on the 360's) that yours can?
I don't have a comparison to Launch but both F430 and 360 are covered by the tool (except for the ECU programming which is handled differently in F430 and 360 and not part of the tool use outside of a gated conversion package anyway).
