Between being now down here full time and watching the "For All Mankind" series on Apple TV, I'd like to pop up to Cape Canaveral and see a launch. 3 hrs from Ft Lauderdale so prob run up the night before...

Anybody have any FHE? Decent hotel/motel, good viewing areas, etc?? What not to do?

Typically, the best place to see the launch is the Saturn V center. It's the closest place I know of (depending on the pad). SpaceX launches from directly opposite the center so that gives the best show for a Falcon 9 launch. If the rocket is returning to the cape, you can see the and hear the first stage coming in for a landing. That is way cool.

There are lots of free places with easier access that take a lot less time for ingress/egress and I would consider them as well.

The thing about launches is that the spot you view the launch from is only matters for about the first five or ten seconds of the launch. Once the rocket clears the tower, pretty much anywhere along the coast is a good viewing location. I used to live in Orlando and I watched many launches right in my backyard.

The Saturn V center is a great place to visit, so if you arrive early or there's a delay, you have something really cool to see. It's a great museum with lots of exhibits. It's also air conditioned and has food and drink available.

I suggest first figuring out what launch you're going to see and then locate the pad on a map. At that point, you can see where the best viewing area is for that particular launch.

As far as what not to do? Don't plan on arriving on time. Arrive early or you'll watch the launch from a traffic jam.

Artemis launch tomorrow morning is going to be nuts. I'd wait for a quiet SpaceX launch and either get tickets to the launch complex area (as stated above) or go to Jetty Park (you will need a pass).
