Thanks Kevin. I sat in front of a board of ten jailors and deputys and there were only four that asked any questions and naturally the chief deputy was the most hardcore and by the book. I was just myself and answered every question they asked honestly as I have nothing to hide and I had most of them smiling the smile that let me know they were pleased with my answers to their questions. One of the questions I was asked is why I was applying for a jailors position so I told them I am willing to take any position they will offer me and so I can keep my commission active and that I had not come this far too give up so easily due to one bad sheriff.

There were ten applicants and we all sat in the waiting room talking and there was only one other applicant who is a state certified peace officer, hopefully that will weigh in my favor. Funny story, I forgot my map at home and as I got into town a white Tahoe was infront of me and a black one behind me and it was obvious they were police vehicles, I know where they hide their lights. So anyway the white Tahoe pulls into a Valero station for gas so I pull in wanting to ask if I was going the right way, it was Sheriff Brandes himself! Great guy and he asked me if I have any experience in LE which I quickly replied "Yes sir I am a former deputy" and he said "I'll see you there so say hello, ok?"

Oh another thing I found kind of odd was that out of the seven men interviewing I was the only one who wore dress shoes, dress slacks and shirt w/tie. Everyone else dressed like they were interviewing with their local convenience store.

Use of the term "one bad sherriff" isn't a strategy choice I would have made...

    Fixed it for you :D.

I did not use that exact terminology with them, only here ;). In all reality FD the interview could not have fallen at a worse time because I barely had 5hrs sleep in the last two days trying to find/rescue those kittens I mentioned in the 'Pets' thread but my performance was up to par.

    Denied employment once again :(!!

I called the Captain and asked if he could give me some insight as to why I was denied but all he had to say was that other candidates recieved more votes from the board than I recieved. Since I have never worked in the jail and a few other candidates are currently jailors with other depts I feel that may have been my downfall. It is apparent that I am failing either during the interview process or in the written application process.

Respectfully, your posts portray of a sense of entitlement toward this particular line of work, and it's very unflattering.

That is probably going to sting a little bit, I know. But you are asking for help, and I'm trying to by calling it like I see it.

Why do you want to be a jailor again?

The line where you say youll take any position is a bit concerning to me. Id want someone who knows for sure why they want that job and that they arent just going to leave in a few months for something else...

You should imo always go in with the intent that this is the job you want with out a doubt....

Saying youll take anything seems desperate and since your dealing with the type A crowd or at least wanna be type A's they wont respond well to that kind of desperation.

I can't help but wonder if this thread wouldn't be better off in the jobs section, other off topic section where you might get a better cross section of folks with advice?

I could not find the original thread I started in 2010 when I first became a LEO so here we are once again. I applied with NOLA PD and submitted my past and current qualifications and license's and I'll be darned if I did meet and exceed their qualifications. Next step will be arranging my testing dates (3-4 days in the Big Easy) and possibly start a new chapter of my life.

Life is good and without goals and dreams one is just a Looper.

Thank you sir yet I doubt anyone has or had any interest, it is what it is. :)

I respect your opinion as we are all entitled to one. I hope you have a Merry Christmas.

    Best regards,
    Gregg :)

    Thank you.

Only a few people know the real reason for my separation from my first/last "commissioned deployment" so maybe some enlightenment is necessary.

I entered the police academy at the young age of 45 simply because I have a compelling urge to help others and I believe there are not enough truly honest LEO's. I graduated in the top 3% of my class, ahead of people half my age. I was the first cadet to be hired from my class and I continue and exceed my training requirements thus I still hold and maintain a valid Texas peace officers license and I am respected in my local LEO community.

    My first deployment....
    1. Week one....read the out of date inter-office email's - the sheriff referred to it as his Bible.

    2. Week two....ride along and getting cows off the road and relocking fences/gates.

    3. Week three....help a father and son resolve their domestic dispute. Arrest a man for assault on his wife while trying to keep their 4-5yr old daughter calm and letting her know she is safe and I will be there for her if she needs me.

4.Dropped off at the court house with a "Good luck".

    5. Five months later falsely accused of a department infraction by the sheriff and given a "Dishonorable Discharge" and relieved of duty.

    6. Did not know that Texas LEO's are ONLY GIVEN 30 days to appeal their termination. The sheriff knew where I lived but mailed the termination, F5, to my mothers home in Houston thus eliminating at least to weeks from my appeal process.

    7. Apply, apply, apply only to be turned down.

    8. The sheriff will not answer my calls or reply to my mail. Since he is reportedly a Preacher I had hoped he would give me a "general discharge" and let me move on.

9.Talking with an attorney about wrongful termination and loss of income.

NOLA PD consist of an initial 3-day testing process. I just hope they will not frown upon my last commission before I can explain myself so they will get both sides of the story. I get a lot of heat from some people here but they are the ones who are running away from the sound of gun fire and not running towards it, sheep and wolves if I may.

Life is crazy, enjoy the ride and try to make a difference.

That's not actually very enlightening. Would you care to share exactly what the infraction was that you were accused of?

Blunt question, feel free to ignore if you like, but I know a lot of people who "know" you on this forum are wondering - are you sober now? It was a couple of years ago, wasn't it, that you acknowledged a drinking problem and had started attending AA? When was your last drink? Was alcohol related to your accused infraction?

A lot of people, myself included, have wished you luck with your LEO endeavours, but something like that would be enough of a showstopper to account for your lack of success since that first position. Full disclosure might let some people offer advice on how to work around the accused infraction in interviews etc. and perhaps help get your LEO career back on track.

    Gordon,
I appreciate your candor and I remember that you have given me support in the past and still do. To answer your question as honestly as possible...YES alcohol was involved in my discharge although I was off duty at the time but I do have a serious problem and always will.

Yes I did start attending AA and I still attend weekly meetings. I have had a few relapses but thankfully my demon is not as large and powerful as it was back then and I can thank AA for that. I have never felt so liberated, the gorilla lifted off my shoulders, than the first time I openly admitted that I am a alcoholic. You may or may not know how many LEO's have this problem and are in AA or in NA. I have not relapsed in over six months so life is good.

    All the best,
    Gregg

Thank you for saying that and mentioning my uncle Maurice, may he RIP.

The day that I finally owned my responsibility, accepting that I am the only one to blame for my down fall, was like being reborn. Public service in any capacity is a calling and not often fully recognized until later in life after one becomes less 'self centered'.

    Life is good.

I was given choices of dates and signed up for April 13 through the 15th, three days for the first segment of testing. I chose said dates because I want to be fully prepared physically and mentally.

I just spoke with a recruiter and everything is a go. My dishonorable will be left up to my background investigation but I still have a 50/50 chance at being hired.

    Never say never, right?

That is the first time you have addressed sobriety since the conclusion of the thread you started long ago on the same topic. All this time, and only now do you mention it. With a litany of "new things" and "me me me" things between then and now.

It looked pretty clear from your repeated rants and bans that you must have relapsed pretty badly. You didn't acknowledge that much of your forum behavior has been attributable to drinking, and many even called you out on it.

Gregg you make make plenty of noise about being open about things, and your self-characterizations go well beyond what most people put in their posts. But
when it comes down to it, you really aren't revealing much about yourself at all.

Most user don't, yet you wax loquacious about your "new" things, your LEO career, your jobs, your friends, your cars, just about anything, and you've got a thread about that part of your life. Most commonly some exciting new interest, only to be forgotten and replaced with a new big thing. Complete disconnect between events and things with your grandiosity being the only glue.

It's like an ideal personna that you are trying to convince the forum as well as yourself is true. To the casual reader it is a plethora of meaningless, hollow platitudes as if you are the fountainhead of some grand wisdom, when in actuality you can't even quote the expression correctly. Not to mention the downright horrible and potentially destructive advice on cars you give to people (F40 turbo springs???) and yet insist that you are some expert because you owned a few MR2's. You get a job at a car dealership and can't even park a car without wrecking it. Were you the "team manager" or "head technician?" Not at all, just the guy who parks the cars, yet on this forum you are going to tell an F40 owner how to rework his turbo??? That's so delusional!! And you just plod right along. Never owned a Ferrari, yet you act like an authority.

You invite scrutiny; people are going to be looking at how authentic you seem to be as a person measured against your own written self-description.

That is exactly why so many posters take the extra measure to question you. They expect you to live up to your own descriptions. You have been questioned ad nauseum. Rather than come clean once and for all, you dismiss the question with some curt remark, and then your next "big thing" shows up, same cycle.

And you don't do well at all with it Gregg. You set yourself up for all you get, then you inevitably make some curt, disengaged, dismissive statement as if the questions were just out of the blue and had nothing to do with your prior statements.

There have been many many people that have taken you to task, or tried to encourage you, at length, in a nice way. You indicate appreciation in most cases, but your pattern
of behavior is absolutely, positively, the same as it has been for years.

The more you do what you do in the way you do it, the more people are going to do what they do in that way. It all falls back on you, you started it all by putting yourself out there like that. You are not persecuted here, people are just expecting you to be consistent in the claims that you make versus some reality you live in.

    (curt remark fully anticipated)
