I am currently putting my gearbox back together and I’m struggling to fit the layshaft back in. I’ve got it in far enough for the roller bearings to be mostly seated and the synchro just started to slide into place. I think the springs are stuck on the ridges on the lay shaft that secure the synchro to the shaft and are preventing any further movement. Any tips or tricks?

Fishing line hold springs slide over shaft pull out fishing line. I think 10lb test monofilament line is the right thickness/strength for the job. After a while you can do it by hand. Seems like you need 3 hands to do this stuff sometimes.

Are you running the line along one of the inside ridges of the synchro or tying string to the springs?

You're in Indy. Ernie is in Indy. He's done (too) many gearboxes. PM me for his contact info.
