After looking for a simple nice stereo deck with some power for my Boxer I have gone the bling route almost by getting a stereo receiver with 80 watts per channel with a 6.5 inch color LCD display that opens and closes and has a remote, it also had a built in TV tuner so I can watch TV, my carbed Boxer is very loud and I prefer to hear the engine over any stereo or TV program but I plan on using it while stopped at traffic lights or parked and sitting.

I haven't installed it yet but is this a little too bling for a Ferrari? Anyone else have one their car?

I can add a DVD player also, but I think I'll be sitting in it in the garage watching the news on tv along with movies if I add a DVD, I am afraid I'll wear my drivers seat out and get popcorn everywhere in the interior.

i have one in my car but it is not a flip screen-
go with pioneer and get the navigation unit/mp3 player/cd player and just buy the 6.5" lcd that does not move- the ones that move and have internal amps break very easily.

ya see- myne is in my 360 and it is more of a daily driver for when it is decent weather outdoors so i figured why not- i dont use it too much but i find it pretty decent to have- impresses the young crowd.

it's your car - do whatever you like to it!

nobody's opinion matters except your own. millions of cars have LCD displays in them now - it's no big deal.

the only thing you might want to worry about is that you can put it back to stock for resale time, but other than that, life is short - enjoy!

The only way a monitor would fit in the dash is the opening/closing models as its a regular stereo deck slot.

I agree on the engine sound, even if I had a great system in the car you couldn't hear it very well over the engine as its very loud but incredible sounding, I just wanted something to listen to if I am stuck at a traffic light for a few minutes or am parked somewhere.

yea, they had to make a big hole in myne for this- it all depends if you are planning on reselling or not- because if you want a decent value you will definately not want an in dash lcd rather a flip-up model- depends on what you want, go talk to an audio shop- there are a few in boston that are very good- i could get you some numbers if you'd like?

Thanks I am in Vegas, I already bought the unit, its a cheaper model but I dont need the ultimate system in the car as it would be a waste, it fits in the stock stereo slot in the dash so no modifications are neccessary.
I agree it will probably fail sooner or later, but I rarely drive the car anyway so it doesn't need to be that durable for daily use, if it lasts me awhile thats okay.

yea, with those unites just dont keep making it go up/down in/out and you will be fine.

That was my original intention, but these monitor units caught my eye and it became sort of a impulse buy, but I thought it would be different for the car since its very classic and adding something high tech and modern to the interior that would be usefull also.

Pioneer AVIC N-1, single DIN all-in-one; soon to be replaced with the N2 which will add satellite radio traffic updates to the NAV (OEM on Acura RL).

They will also be releasing a double-DIN version of the same unit called the D1 later this year, but I can't think of any F-cars with a double-DIN opening.

    To repeat myself:

In the Mondial Z I am going to build in a full PC using a mini itx board. Input will be via a 7inch touch screen and a trackball. Some things this setup will do:

Play gigabites of MP3s (and DVDs if you are parked)
Receive DAB and FM radio broadcasts
GPS navigation and fixed speed camera warnings
    Wireless LAN when at home
Display and record video from front and rear cameras
    Control engine efi management system
    Bluetooth phone integration including:
-handsfree telephone calls and voice dialling
    -email
    -web access

Sound will go through a suitable amp to NXT flat panel speakers.
The display will have a chrome dancing donkey for the screen saver.

All for about the price of a home PC.

..and yes I will be modifying the dash (totally making a new one)

Check out "Eclipse." It has a tasteful look that looks period correct, yet has all the modern features, CD, MP3, flip face. I'll post a photo this evening when I get home, along with more details.

I searched all over for a radio/CD player that would be tasteful in the dash and their products fit the bill. PeterB.

I couldnt put a flip up LCD in my 348 because of that open-close cover. I went with the Sony MEX-1HD...They dont make it anymore...but it has a 10gig hard drive built into the head unit. I say go for it, just try to make it as easy as possible to go back to stock...I have a 15" sub, a bluetooth carkit, a built in valentine 1, and a code alarm....the built in valentine 1 is the only thing that cannot be taken out real easy to go back to stock...but who cares....who wouldnt want a hidden Valentine 1 with the display built into the radio cover. BLING IT OUT as much as your heart desires (Except, NO SPINNERS!!!!), I just wouldnt do any cutting or anything permanent.

Jeff, here's what I put in my 308 GTS:
"ECLIPSE" Model CD3434, by Fujitsu Ten. High-Power "Full-Face" CD Receiver with MP3 Decoder and Remote.

I installed it myself, purchased it from "Car Toys." I opted out of an amp...although it could use one for open-air motoring. I used the stock speaker cut-outs using "Infinity 52.5i"...5 1/4" Two Way speakers with integral/in-line crossover devices. It's a great match. In my other mid engine beast, I have ADS 4" box speakers with an ADS 100watt amp which has a bit more kick compared to what I put in the Ferrari...But I'm not into big Bass hip-hop music so I really don't need the extra watts in the F-car. I could always add an amp later; yet I'm more than happy with the sound and the installation simplicity...I used the car's STOCK wiring harness to hook it all up. Here are some photos:

I sought out a receiver with a Classic Look with modern features, I think this full/flip face truly fits the period interior;)

    Thats a nice looking deck.

Heres a pic of the monitor I got, sort of sold me even more when I saw the TR on the display brochure.
You do see these in SUVs and Caddys new 996s but not Ferraris generally.

Like I said this is a cheaper lower end unit but does have abuilt in amp with 80watts per channel as I didn't want to add an amp either

Liquid Crystal Display...I'm not against it at all, but why in a Ferrari? Just a curious question, since most often I drive my car without the radio...to hear the most unique sound so many folks never will. Of course, once that fix has been obtained...the disc slides in for mood enhancement...and usually the tempo equates to triple digit cruise and my other counter-measures scanning all around for the man. This gets my adrenaline & heart rate way up...that's my fix.

So, I'll pose the question, what do you do with these LCD's in the F-car???:)

I thought about putting that dual unit in my 328 but if you read the specs it would stick out form the dash like 2.5 inches. Also why would I need a Tv in the car. When would I watch it. I dont beleive the dual unit plays DVD only has a TV tuner (with likely lousey reception). I have installed a DIN size 5 disc changer. I will listen to music far more than watch TV. Besides I thought the unit being large would take away from the interior and might be too "hip hop" for this type of car.
