Hey guys/gals, I just moved into a new apartment and would like to put a LCD/plasma television in my bedroom to replace my old CRT. I'd like to keep it under $1100 (pretty firm on that). I have looked at many different websites and spoke to some sources but would love to hear what you would recommend. I'm thinking in the 20-26" inch area - as that's primarily what I'd like to spend. I mostly will be using it for watching television and occasionally, DVDs. Having a hookup for my computer would be nice, but not a necessity...as well as HDTV (nice, but not necessity). Any recommendations? I live in Manhattan and would consider buying used if anyone wants to sell. Also, should I go to the store to buy, or through a website? Thanks for your recommendations and help ahead of time. Best, Darren Herman
Hey Man, I have a 42 plama which is nice about 6months still looks great and its a Prima model, might be over that 1,100 mark. For my son I put a Prima 27 LCD and it looks a bit more crisp, but I think it may be because the screen is smaller. In HD they both look great for events,I would probably venture for the richness of the color to go for the LCD in that price range. By it throught the store, at least you know what your looking at as far as color, and looks of the TV.
This months Consumer Reports compares plasma, LCD, CRT and DLP screens for HD video quality. In the CR's tests, plasma wins hands down for HD picture quality. I myself have two plasma, a Pioneer Elite 50' and 42' with DirecTV HD TIVO receivers . The 42' is mounted on the wall in the bedroom with a Bose 3.2.1 system and the 50's mounted in a disappearing cabinet in the family room with a Bose Lifestyle system. I am well pleased with both systems. I bought mine at HiFi Buys and had them install them so I could get the five year replacement warrantly just to be safe.

http://www.fotoconnection.com/viewitem.php?IndexID=10407&RefTag=froogle Ok, not 850 but 945, but one tip -- I was contemplating getting this, I added it to my cart and then later deleted it, and I got an e-mail from these guys saying to give them a call to bargain on the price. I got them down to $899. Also if in NY I'd try to pick this up -- I'm not sure but I doubt it would have been *free* shipping.
Also some on Ebay at $799 new + $100 shipping, reputable seller: http://cgi.ebay.com/SHARP-AQUOS-LC-G5C26U-26-LIQUID-CRYSTAL-SILVER-TV-NIB_W0QQitemZ5817002747QQcategoryZ94927QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem I'm keeping my fingers crossed to see this for $5-600 by Christmas.
I saw that Dell is now selling LCD TVs http://www1.us.dell.com/content/products/category.aspx/tvs?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs Beware of accessories, such as stands and cables that many TV stores will not provide in the original purchase. A friend got hit for $125 extra for "cables" that the salesman claimed were not included but the buyer later found they were not needed.
I have a Dell LCD TV It is one of the best LCD's I have ever had. Great quality and sound. I def Rec. Only problem is Dell had the worst customer support. Antony
