Hey everyone. For those who saw my last "looking for a 360" thread, I ended up caving and buying a Nissan GTR. I don't have buyers remorse, however I need to put the idea of which car I want more to rest.

If there is any semi-local 360 Modena 3 pedal cars available in our area, I'd like to go check it out and take it for a drive. It will boil down to, If I like the 360 more than my GTR, I will trade my car in right then and there for the 360, and if I don't, I will walk away knowing I made the right choice.

If anyone has any leads to local 360's for sale please let me know. All I have found so far are too far away, spiders (out of budget), or F1 trans.

That tells me you should have waited for the 360 my friend. :) However competent the GTR is.. it's not a stick 360. You'll see. No matter how much technically nicer the GTR is, you're still going to be drawn to the Ferrari. :)

BTW when they want too much for it.. and they will.. I'd consider buying one at a distance, probably from Florida. I think there is a stick in Ballston Lake, NY.. a yellow car. You'd have to make a day drive of it..

1999 Ferrari 360 Modena 6 SPEED Manual Fresh Annual & Belt Service

If you really want a deal on a 6 speed in the 50's or mid/low 60's.. you're going to probably have to do a national search. NE cars are too expensive.

Hey guys, thanks for what you have found so far. I have been eyeing that yellow one. It looks to be in good order. I am trying to figure out if yellow is a deal killer or not though. Price is right on target for what I am looking for. Unfortunately the 89K red car is just too much money for my budget.

If you're really stuck on a color and you want a stick you know it's going to be some time to find one. You also know if you wait another.. what 3 months prices will ebb a tad.

You could always wrap it and change the headlights.. be patient.. one of these days I'll tell you how much I got mine for..

BTW what's wrong with this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ferrari-360-360-Ferrari-360-6speed-Manual-with-Tubi-Exhaust-and-New-Clutch-/200938951631?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item2ec8e513cf&vxp=mtr

Since I would be trading in my car, it would be difficult to drive down to Miami with my car, trade in and drive that 360 back. otherwise... nothing wrong at all with that one. I think black, white, and yellow are the colors I dont really want.

*reason I want to trade my car in, is because I want to avoid paying sales tax. I paid 4 grand in sales tax on my car, I dont want to pay another 4 when I register a new car.

Thanks, I did shoot an email to the dealer with that yellow one. I hope to hear back today. I figure they were closed for the Holiday weekend.

For what it's worth, I've seen this car and it's quite nice. Same dealer sold me my Maserati. It's actually in Queensbury, a bit north of Ballston Lake.

PM me if Rino doesn't get back to you: I have his cell number. And, let me know if you're in the area; we'll grab a coffee.

Thanks for the offer, I actually just spoke with him on the phone. He doesn't seem to be too familiar with the market for my GTR. He said he will email me back after looking into it further, although he didn't seem to be too interested in making a deal unless he made a homerun off the sale since his car is so "rare", and he typically only sells Porche Ferrari and Maserati.

I'd like to hear others opinions on the situation. Maybe I am dreaming?

His car is listed for 65K. I feel this is top dollar for a 99 360. That's fine, if it is as described it deserves top dollar. I feel my car should retail for 65K as well based on KBB, NADA, and the general market for my car. I asked for 59K in trade for my car which is top dollar trade. If he wants top dollar for his car, then I should get top dollar for mine. I would write a check for the difference. It seems like a solid offer in my eyes. He would make 5-6K off my car when sold, and is making probobly 5+K on his car selling it to me now. It seems like a fair deal to me? What do others think? Am I being fair or should I expect to be writing a larger check?

Glad he got a hold of you.

Before even talking numbers, I would highly encourage you to go drive the car and see it for yourself. My opinion of what makes a great 360 might be different from yours. Your GTR may or may not be in top nick, affecting what it's worth.

    I'd also consider a PPI.

That said, I know nothing of the GTR market and thought the 360 was well-priced for what it is.

But.. you would be able to take it for a drive and see if it is for you! You always have the option of selling the GTR and taking the hit on sales tax... or do a broker in NYC for a car nationally and still classify as trade-in?

RVL.. my parents live in Ballston Lake on Saratoga Road south of the boat launch. How I've toyed with the idea of bringing my 360 up there for Ferrari weekend in Sept..

    sigh....

So I called a few places with 360's I was interested in within a few hundred miles of me. I like honesty, so I tell them up front what I am doing, my car, my trade, my plan, I am a serious buyer.... We talk for a while about the car, and start to talk numbers... and the typical 360 bull**** begins. This is why I stopped 360 shopping, because I am damn fed up with hearing all these dealers talk about how their particular car is so awesome and better than all the others out there, and perfectly maintained, and the best part is every 360 I have inquired about is THE RAREST OF THE RARE, and they can sell it whenever they want, and there are so many buyers, and so many offers on the table, and they want 5-10 grand over market value because of this. "Why I ask is this one so rare?" Then they cite some random feature of the car, like the color, or modular wheels etc. Newsflash guys! Every 360 cannot be super rare just because of some option or feature you rattled off to me. Just because there were 200+ color and option configurations, it doesn't make every one of them rare for ****s sake!

One of them even had the audacity to tell me that his last belt change was in 2008, and that was fine because "all the 360 guys go 10 years between belt changes now". Are you kidding me? Do people think 360 shoppers are not educated?

Has anyone else been through so much grief shopping for a damn car? My budget is 70K or less (preferrably 65K), which is fair for an earlier model year 360 coupe right? Why can't I just find a car, and pay fair market value for it?

It took me a year to find my first Ferrari ('88 328GTS,) and I kissed a lot of frogs. I cross-shopped carbed 308s, 308QVs, tried a 355 and a 360. I even seriously considered a 412. I drove as far as Medina, OH and eventually bought my car in Boston. i paid slightly above-market but bought a car in near-mint shape with a from-new service history and warranted for a year by an authorized Ferrari dealer. 10,000mi and a major service later, I still have the car and could not be happier.

I'm not saying it's impossible, but it is VERY hard to buy a Ferrari right, sight unseen. To your point, what you are buying is the car not the sellers' BS. Only the car itself can tell you the truth. $70k for a 360 can be a bargain or a total ripoff, depending on the car.

Hang in there. If you stick with it, have patience and burn some shoe leather, you'll find the right car.

    Thanks for the confidence!

I actually have just this morning found another car. This one is quite a bit further but the price is... well almost too good. but it is at a Ferrari dealer who advertises here on Fchat. It is a 99 360 manual transmission in silver with blk interior with that dark blue carpet. 38K miles on it, asking 59,000. They say it has a fresh belt service, it has shields, regular seats, regular starfish wheels, tubi, challange grill, and some stickies from what I can see. It is about 13 hours away from me by car. Maybe it'll be worth the drive. I am waiting for them to contact me back.

I agree completely with your assessment of the car sales market out there. I don't believe its unique to used Ferraris however. I get so amused when I call about a car and the salesman says "we've had a lot of interest in this car" yet weeks later I still see it advertised for sale. Then they start calling you back seeing if you still have interest. If they were upfront right from the start you may have dealt with them. Honesty is not one of the qualities attributed to many of those "used car salesman" out there. I think pretending the car is "so rare or so special with many interested parties" is in their sales manual 101. Just the nature of the business but don't give up. Persistence will prove beneficial in the end.

My father lives there anyways, maybe his son will pay him a visit and take him for a ride in his new Ferrari haha.

Any insider info on that one? Seems to be a car that hasn't seen much internet before posted for sale recently. VIN number in a google search comes up dry.

I am excited about this one though, perhaps too excited.

Did you see the 1999 Grigio Titanio Modena at Wide World like a month and a half ago? Fresh major, a little beat up, but not horrible, and consistent with most others. I would have told you about it earlier, but I was too busy buying it. Lesson here being, your car will come, when the time is right. Check all ads daily, usually twice. I found it due to an error by the advertising guy, who neglected to post it on all conduits, and only did on TDR. They forgot cars.com and autotrader. By chance I happened to check TDR, which I usually never check, due to all cars being on cars and auto trader already, and it was the only 360 on there not in the others. I jumped on it, and it is in my garage, for under 70k. It had all the options I wanted, shields, challenge grille, and carbon seats. I realize you want a manual, which is rarer, so in my eyes, every manual is a rare car. Does anyone know the numbers for manual vs F1?

from what I have seen, 20% are manual, which makes it 1 in 5 cars.

The car I spoke of earlier this morning is sold already. back to the drawing board again.

I have been checking sources daily, autotrader,cars.com,craigslist, dupont and here. What is TDR?

I prefer regular or daytona seats, I don't want carbon seats. I am more interested in comfort. I would only buy a car with carbon seats because I know I could easily trade them for a regular set here.
