Thank you for all the great info on this forum. Does anyone have the wiring diagram or pinout of the harness that plugs into the Leak Detection Pump? I am attaching a picture on the part I am attempting to test. I needed to know at which pins I need to supply voltage to: 1) close the valve and 2) run the diagnostic motor. Any help will be appreciated. Image Unavailable, Please Login
It looks like the last 3 digits of the part number have been erased (?) Is it the same as a BMW pump? https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/BMW-Fuel-Vapor-Leak-Detection-Pump-BOSCH-0-261-222-018-16-13-7-193-479/400768526697
Can you see the wire colours on the plug? This might be a clue. Even though there are only 4 pins, I'm not sure I would check by trial and error. Certain kinds of pumps don't like being reversed.
It’s orange yellow blue and purple. Thanks. Image Unavailable, Please Login Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Google is your friend. It checks the sealing of the evaporative emission system. Something like this? Image Unavailable, Please Login Sorry, no clue. Assuming the valve and pump use separate pin pairs, perhaps you could check resistances across various pin pairs?
It may be more complicated than we think. I was watching a video on a non-Ferrari leak detection pump and the circuit was like this: Image Unavailable, Please Login Motor, heater, valve solenoid and power. I don't know if the pin numbers match.
Yes that does seem a bit complicated. If someone had a wiring diagram we can see at least which one may be ground. I’ll try an ohm meter tonight. I have a feeling my valve may not be closing but wanted to check before ordering a new part. Thanks for your research and help. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
True. When the guy in the video first started talking about the wiring, I thought he was going to say pin 4 was a ground, but then he showed it was power. That Mini/BMW type pump needs multiple grounds (fixed or switched). You may be able to check for voltages on the car side of the plug with the ignition off/on or car running. Looking forward to your results.
For reference, there is a fuse associated with the pump, but it has too many other things attached to it. You would know if the fuse had blown. Behind the passenger seat... Image Unavailable, Please Login
I looked at this Youtube video again. (Which I want to thank you for finding. I did many searches and did not see it for some reason.) The leak detection pump on the Mini (and BMW) appear almost identical. I'm sure the part number may be different though. This means the pinout on the pump side may be the same. I am going to see if that is the case and update this thread later.
