Could a manifold leak stop ticking after the engine & manifolds warm up, or only a thin crack would stop ticking? Or both?! More specifically on a 1995 F355 manifold.

One would think it could, but if it's cracked (as seems common on 355's) it will just get worse. You need to address the issue before it causes lots of other problems. I had some loose bolts on my header at the block and it ticked, but didn't stop with heat. Took me a month to find the source of the noise; whoda thunk that would ever be loose; most are so tight you can't get them off!

No; it kept ticking; but the nuts in question were finger loose.

mine did. i think the metal expands when it gets hot and blocks up the opening. it does continue to get worse over time, though.

Yes, Without a doubt. The earlier ones crack right on the front or back side of the secondary air tubes.

Yes, and if you need a pair of manifolds, send us an email. We are starting to take orders again now that we've caught up some, current wait is about 3-4 weeks.

My friends made an awful noise a bit like a Vw Beetle on tickover but once you revved it it was then fine, he had the manifolds remade just using the flanges here in the Uk for £350 each

If the leak is minor then rebuilding the manifolds is a great idea. But at times when the damage is major, rebuilding at times is not worth the money spent. We recently started rebuilding manifolds and we're picky on what we do and don't rebuild for this reason.

There are several threads about this. Essentially your options are: 1. Factory parts (they are improved, but still susceptible to cracking), 2. QVLondon, who rebuilds them with better material, or 3. Aftermarket products which get more HP.

None of the above is cheap, QVLondon is probably the least expensive, but the labor is high because of the difficultly in replacing the manifolds.

I'd also check the CATs. Make darn sure that they aren't plugged, which that can cause the cracking. If it's the cats, you can either use the factory parts, or aftermarket, hyperflow cats make more power than stock, so that's an option.

No matter what you do, it's expensive.
