LOL! That's a pretty funny set of pictures. I actually went through the "Oh no......... whew!" going between them. All the best, Andrew.
Coming along nicely Mike. That little hole on towards the bottom of the slave cylinder/flange, right above the seal, that is the weep hole I was telling you about. For the rest of you guys, if you look back at some of the other pics you'll be able to see that weep hole, from the out side. When you pull your clutch, if that weep hole has fluid coming out of it you know that your seal (the one Mikey is gonna be changing anyway, on the back side of the slave cylinder) has bit the dust. If there isn't any leaking then you don't have too fool with it. Another thing to do Mike, when you go to put those two little o-rings back on, go to a Honda dealer and pic yourself up a tube of Hondabond HT. Then put a dab of the Hondabond on your finger and smear it on the little o-rings before you put them back on. Be sure to leave the hole open, you just wanna coat the rings a little bit with the Hondabond. I did this when I put my box back together because it helps make a better seal once things are back in place.
That's either one of the coolest Stooge tips ever or the motoring equivalent of a 'snipe hunt'! I'll have to google "hondabond ht" now. Nice one, Ernie!
Okay boys, yet some more work again today while I wait for my package to clear customs. I am hoping to have the parts tomorrow so I can get it all back together on the weekend, I really miss driving it and it feels like it has been FOREVER!! Anyhow, I just gave the Bush Support Flange and Rear Gear Inspection Plate a bath in brake fluid....almost as good as new. -- Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I found some rubber debris in the hole where that tiny O Ring goes behind the flange. I am thinking it must be some of the O Ring. -- Image Unavailable, Please Login
So, it is time to break out Ferrari Especiale Tool # 09232010 (today's date ) and clean it up...no, I am not a dentist, but I sure felt like one here This dental pic/dental scaler is a handy tool, I advise anyone who does not have one to befriend a dental assistant and ask her to get you one of their boss's old ones Now you have to be VERY careful, I was EXTRA CAREFUL and was BARELY touching the metal, you do not want to scrape the metal in there otherwise there is a good chance you will not be able to get it to seal. So take your time, steady hands, concentrate, go soft and as soon as you feel metal let up. I would advise getting into a comfortable position first, that will help you keep your hands steady. -- Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
For this procedure, I turned the dental pic sideways and simply scraped away as much of the rust/dirt/grease as possible - again, being VERY careful not to scratch the surface. -- Image Unavailable, Please Login
and for you snarky italian machine owners.. Ducati bond is also the same stuff as hondabond and yamabond. Yamaha also sells an incredible cleaner. It is water based but will dissolve old gas that has turned to varnish in seconds. It's used to soak whole carbs without fully disassembling them. Will not eat rubber and is easy on your hands. Amazing stuff and I still don't know how it works but it does. It's cheap too.............. http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/apparel/apscitemdetail/3/124/all/1/322/detail.aspx
Mike, I may have missed a comment earlier, but am assuming you verified the ring nut under the inspection plate is tight and staked down good? Just want to make sure.
Correct. I had a mechanic look at it, he grabbed it with his hand and twisted and tugged, advised me not to touch it as he feels it is fine the way it is. Thanks for double checking though
awesome thread... when you put it all back together, can you specify torque requirements as needed... this is very complete so far. great job...
Ok guys, I will give it a try tonight. Ernie, I am going to give you a call to discuss this before I do...I may need to put on a pair of diapers for this as I am TERRIFIED of this procedure!!
It's just a love tap to stake the right side of the ring nut a lil better. Nothing you need to put on a pair of Depends for. Though we have found a tiny foil hat can be helpful.
Looks like you knocked the dirt off it. I'm not even sure what I'm looking at. I'm assuming that those two sides keep what's inside from coming out. Is that right?
