Last year I kept finding little drips underneath my 348 clutch pumpkin. Ordered new triple seals since that is what I thought it was. The replacement went easy enough other than tearing one of the seals which I ran to the local dealer to get a replacement. After having the car in the shop this last week they noted that the area was leaking. I reckon it probably never stopped or it was coming from two separate places. So off the pumpkin came this morning since now I was pretty positive it was the throw out bearing. So as somewhat of a relief I pulled the t/o bearing out and it isn't blown out. But the seals are shot. At least the one closest to the transmission is. It is all chewed up which I have seen in other pictures on here. Since the bearing feels fine and I am seeing no damage on it I went ahead and ordered the three seals from ricambi. I wish I would have looked closer at the bearing last year but it was my first time working on the 348 so I didn't know what to all look for yet. Oh well. At least it was easier to get the pumpkin off this time since I was familiar with it. Image Unavailable, Please Login
That's exactly what my seal looked like when mine was leaking. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/348-355/296614-leak-underneath-clutch-help.html --
Oh well I ordered it anyway. Yeah that seal is chewed up pretty good. But all is good. Parts are on there way.
I should have also mentioned that the orange seal will not even go inside the bearing. It is hard as a rock, no flexibility whatsoever, which is why I commented about believing it is pressed in at the time the bearing is made. You'll see what I mean when you receive it. If you figure out a way to do this, please let us know
Very strange why they offer it as a separate part. I went to try and pull it out if there then stopped. Something in the back of my mind told me not to screw with it. So tell us the story....
I covered it in a thread. Lots of help from the brothers (Ernie and Mike). Special thanks to Mario (Magnum6464) who came over on his day off to help. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/348-355/375985-348-pumpkin-clutch-leak-investigation.html
