    Hi guys,

Toying with the idea of dyeing my red steering wheel air bag to black. Any recommendation of dye to use?

I'd be interested in what people have to say about this too. What about the coloured part behind the steering wheel (it's not leather)?

It's kinda like vinyl. A local leathersmith charges usd400 just to do the airbag.

I am in the middle of re-dying the entire interior of my 456. Leatherique has everything you need. There are also some great write-ups on their site. A couple of pointers: 1) I'm not sure about the 360's, but the 456 used laquer dye, not water-based so I had to use laquer thinner to strip off the old dye. The prepping agent Leatherique sold me did no good. 2) I brushed the new dye on with several light coats, allowing a day inbetween coats. 3) No matter what you use to strip off the old dye, the leather has likely soaked up the old color so it will still remain the previous color. It will just lose it's sheen and be softer. 4) Don't use sandpaper, it's not necessary.

    Good luck!

I purchased the dye to fix a seat but I haven't gotten a chance to do it yet. The whole procedure on how to do it is on Leatherique's website. Seems pretty straight forward.

The best is Surflex. it is 100% color matched by a spectrophotometer. It is a woman in PA. who sells it. Recommended by John Paterak who wins all the national concourse events. I have used it several times. They also make a great leather cleaner and restorer.
