I'm redoing my sun room. Making it larger and adding on etc. Some info here:

My old sun room had the typical recessed light cans and a flat ceiling. My new addition will have a cathedral ceiling. I want to use new technology and install dedicated LED cans (light fixtures) instead of installing the old incandescent light cans and adding the LED insert. Anyone have dedicated LED ceiling flood lights? They are smaller than the old typical incandescent light can. Like the typical Halogen type. Four inches or so. I was at Home Depot and they offered only three. I can call around. Maybe some of the lights unlimited type places locally will have some in their show room? Wondering if anyone has used them and their opinions of them.

    Thanks

be sure to get bulbs designed for that application. if led are not rated for upside down installation they will burn out prematurely. the heat does not dissapate correctly.

After doing some research and talking to some people at some local lighting stores I have decided to go with standard incandescent cans. I'm going to use the remodel type. They can be taken out in the future if I want to change to something else. Being a cathedral ceiling I will have no attic access to them. Remodel cans have 3 fingers that can be retracted and the unit can be removed and a new one wired in anytime. I'm not sure what type of recessed can I will use. The standard recessed can that uses the standard large 65 watt incandescent bulb or the smaller halogen type. We will bring all my wife's exercise equipment up and it will go in the new sun room when it is finished. Typically she works out during the day/evenings. Even if she works out after dark she says she would only have the lights on at a lower level. My worry was how much heat standard incandescents put out. Since standard incandescents are easily dimmed it will be my choice. I have many of these in my house and I bought a few cases of bulbs knowing they may not be available someday. I can also put in retrofit LED bulbs in the incandescent cans one day. From what I have heard many do not like the smaller halogens as they burn out somewhat quickly. I have some LEDs in my house and really like them. So I was wanting to use them in this new sun room. But I think the incandescents will be fine. Next time I am at some home centers I'll look at incandescent cans. I know there are many variations available.

I have changed all the lights in my house to LED's. I have over 75 can lights in my house, I would never use incandescent again. If they are hard to get to, why would you use a bulb that will need to be replaced every few years when an LED can last 20 years...

    Just my two cents...

With the incandescence cans I can install LED retrofit bubs into them anytime I like. With the remodel cans I can change to dedicated LED cans anytime I like. I have cases of incandescent bulbs on hand and the sun room is only an occasional use room. There will be only 6 lights in the ceiling. I would have liked to maybe use more lights but one ceiling has 2 sky lights. So 6 ceiling lights works well.
