Chas (GuyIncognito) gave me the idea of creating a poll. We found out we have a bunch of left handers on here, so it's kind of interesting to know how our Fchat "population" stands.
leftie: but ambi too.....just not a true ambi. Like can't truly write except on a chalk board where I MUST write with my right hand...go figure.. I was Catholic anyone else find that lefties are more carefull in a right hand world., like scissors, spiral notebooks, put away the male member etc. Many right handers just don't understand the negotiation left handed people must learn. PS: Another test that typically doesn't fail: 1. You tuck your 'member' if male [duh] on your dominant side: remember that one from Gattica 2. People eat with chopsticks with their dominant side.
I took golf for PE in HS. Learned it right-handed since all they had were right-handed clubs. Later they got a set of left-handed clubs, but it was too late and to this day I still can't swing left. Muscle memory or the brain interfering I guess.
I voted Ambidextrious, but I am ............ hell I do not know. YOU tell ME. Born Left-Handed my father taught me to do many things right handed as it is a Right-Handed World. Now: a) I write Right handed but can do left with some difficulty that could be overcome in short order. b) I switch-hit in baseball (but perfer left handed). c) Kick Left footed. d) Shoot right or left handed (perfer right with rifles BUT .............) e) In college I would write sentences in one long continuious line filling the entire page starting from top left to right and then right to left (spelling letters backward) on the next line, then left to right again, etc. When someone borrowed my notes they "had" to use a mirror to read every other line. Needless to say my notes almost never got borrowed. f) I am left eye dominate. g) As a magician I learned all hand movements as a lefty first. Then migrated to the right hand. h) And for the kicker, I (used to) play pinball with my arms crossed- right hand left flipper button, left hand, right flipper button. There are probably a bunch of things I forgot ................ This can make some things VERY DIFFICULT as one can imagine. For example, I ALWAYS HAVE TO THINK which way to turn a screw depending which hand I have the screwdriver in. Things most of you take for granted and just do, I MUST THINK THRU FIRST. The list of ah-$hits is almost endless. IF ANYONE can "top" this mess, my sincere condolences.
BBBAAAAAHHHHHHhhahahahahahhahahhahahahaha I follow you everywhere!! Now you are "bumping"? What both hands busy? I guess I can vote...........right for somethings..........left for other things......and both for special things..
Left: shoot guns, eat, operate. Right: write (broke left arm in first grade), shave, choke the....you know.
I voted left but I can use both hands for most things. Write left handed except on vertical surfaces (blackboard, etc.) then I can use either Kick left Throw either Bat, golf right. Right eye dominate Rifle or archery right Pistol either Drive almost exclusively left handed, rarely use both even more rarely use right only. (don't think I could master a stick shift RHD car) Using a screwdriver really gets confusing (so does removing an oil filter)
Leftie .. but same .. youngest of 4 brothers and only right-handed clubs to learn with .. today any 2 handed sports I play right handed (except pool), everything else is left. Tennis I can play with both hands, so only have to hit a forehand if I can be bothered switching .. but I'm not any good either way.
left, very left. Not surprising, eh? Also I'm INTJ in the MBTI type test. Shoot a rifle right handed (right eye dominant) but can shoot a pistol with either hand as I shoot those with both eyes open. Have a sibling who is left handed, a son who is left handed, and the other son is ambidextrous. Truly. Can write with either hand, throws right, bats left, hits golf balls right handed, weird to watch him sometimes. As a little kid, when we would have a catch, he'd toss it back left handed one time, then right the next. gotta be confusing for the old brain, don't ya think? Wife is a righty. Also not surprising, eh?
I shoot a rifle left handed (left eye dominant), but can use a pistol with either hand. funny. Isn't being a right-eye dominant lefty fairly unusual?
I don't know about the averages. My number 1 son is right handed (almost ambidextrous) and he's left eye dominant. I do know it made me miss with a gun real well until I figured it out. Can't cross shoot a rifle, doesn't work for me, but I can do it with a pistol as I can get that pretty much centered up. Also, I am a little more accurate shooting a pistol right handed, but I think I can work on that. I tend to hit a little left when I shoot rightie, and a little right when I shoot leftie. Still working out the bugs. DM
