I don't mean to steal your sayings Ernie. In the middle of my 30k major. A few questions fellas:

    1. Is there any nut/bolt on my 348 with reverse threading?
    2. Are there any nut/bolts that are 'torque once only' and therefore should be replaced?
    3. Are there any nut/bolts in your opinion that SHOULD be 'torque once only'?

Thanks you guys - I must say, as a novice the tightening and loosening nuts/bolts is quite concearning to me. Eventhough I have torque specs its not quite as simple as lefty-loosey-righty-tighty.

    1. No
    2. Only some internal to engine/trans.
    3. i replace almost all hardware during a major fwiw. And yes, use a torque wrench, too often majority of opinion seems to be "if tight is good, tighter must be better!".

Just spent 4 hours drilling out a broken stud at the front of a 355 because someone decided it needed sealant and to be super tight. A quick gasket replacement became a full days work. Thanks whoever you were!

Yes, there are some torque-to-yield bolts that need to be replaced. Make sure you know the difference.

Yes, the adjustment bolt for the alternator belt tightening hub is reverse thread.

Oh that's not my saying, I just say it alot? :D I heard it a loooooong time ago, and it made so much simple sense it stuck.

    Yes.

A ring nut on one of the shafts inside the gearbox.
    Yes

The head bolts, and the bolts that hold the differential together. So unless you are planning on removing the heads from the block, or opening up the gearbox then tearing apart the differential I would worry about those. If I have to remove a ring nut I usually replace those.

Okay so would clockwise/counter clockwise make you feel better? LOL :p

hahaha - everytime I tighten a fastener on this damn engine I keep hearing a faint voice softly wispering 'helicoiled engine' in my head!!! This Ferrari will be the death of me... but I love it.
