So a couple days ago i started getting a cramp in my left thigh during bench presses. Im not new to the bench press but am new to the thigh cramp during it...any thoughts on why I am pulling with my thigh subconsciously and how I stop ?
I actually had a mini-cramp after my leg workout this week. I think it comes down to potassium, water in-take, and stretching. Stretching is very important before leg lifting.
sometimes I get leg cramps (or tendons going whacky) for a moment when i'm doing normal movements after doing something that should be natural movements to me, but somewhat foreign (IE swimming) Stretching seems to be the only cure.... Before, and during each workout, I stretch out just about all my major muscle groups. I seem to forget the few times I get a chance to swim.
I do a pretty good stretching routine before hand. I think Im pulling with my leg for some strange reaons and I cant mentally stop my body from doing it
As mentioned-banana. I'm pretty active, stretch, drink plenty of water, yet I've been getting weird leg cramps. I added more banana to my diet and the craps are gone. I also have a bit more spring in my step when I run. I play baseball on Sundays and three hours running around the outfield in the 90 degree heat can get kind of rough. The day before the game I eat a Banana. After the game, I eat a banana. I eat one more the next day. As I said, leg cramps are gone and recovery is stronger.
Still a good observation, that doesn't get enough mention. Several brands that can have that effect. It is often recommended to try another brand instead. CH
Good thread. I'll second the banana/water/stretching notion. Just started eating a banana before exercise last month and it's really energized my workout, particularly high-intensity cardio (there's a tight relationship between sodium and potassium). Just a thought: Back the weight way off and concentrate on form for a couple weeks. Move the weight back up as your muscle memory takes your legs out of the sequence.
i hate bananas, any other good ways to get potassium? i have had " all over " cramps from working long hours and from drinking tons of water. i take a mens multi vitamin, but they dont seem to have much potassium in them.
