leg room in an e type?

can someone 6 4' fit in an e type, is there leg room differences in type 1 or 1.5?

 

Not a really roomy car.

The only difference would be for a "flat floor" (very early Series 1). If the car has the recessed footwells they are the same dimensions.

You might prefer a Series 3.

 

I'm 6' 1". I fit fine in my '66 without have the seat all the way back and without having my head rub the headliner. The steering column is marginally adjustable (tilt and telescope) and the seatback can adjust for rake to a small degree.

 

Series I and II are the same on leg room, as well as the doors. Later s I ( 65 on) and s II have more seat adjustment. I am 5'9 and fit quite well, but getting in and out is still tight. All 2+2's and Series III are 9" longer and the doors are longer, so being 6'4 the series III is a more practical fit. There are also some 2+2's that have been " modified" to convertables both series I, II, & III , but I would be real careful on the quality of the conversion. Drive all three and buy the one you are love with.

If you are long in the leg, there can also be a knee to steering wheel clearance issue. My '62 FHC has the drivers seat dropped as low as possible and smaller steering wheel to maximize clearance. My '66 OTS is stock, and the driving posture for 6 footers and above can be awkward. Bottom line is that a Mazda Miata cockpit is roomy by comparison!

 

Leg room would be OK, issue could be getting in and out .

 

Mines a 65 OTS. I'm 5' 10" and I fit with seat all the way back. Person I bought it from was over 6' 2" I don't know how he drove it, his knees must have been in his chin. These cars do not have lots of room and in an open car you would be above the windshield catching bugs or looking directly at the top of the cross piece. Better find one and sit in it to be sure.

 

I have a '66 FHC, and I am short (5'7")...there's plenty of leg room, but (as others mentioned), getting in and out is definitely a dance. Can't say for sure, but I think even with the seat back, someone as tall as you would experience a tight fit.

 

I have a seies 2...You forgot to mention ball of foot width as well... I am a size 12 shoe size...The space between the gas pedal and brake is also marginal...if I wear hard shoes, I hit both pedals at once, sneakers or driving shoes only!!!

 

Ken, I have a 67 1.5 OTS (triple SUs, toggles, blade bumpers, but uncovered headlamps...my preference as you can fit HID's and actually see at night). I am 6'2 but long torso (relatively short legs). No diff in leg room between series one and one.5 - or a series two for that matter. I would tell you that getting into the car with the hood up is like climbing into a port hole....hence, the hood is always down. As others have said it is a small cockpit, but when seated very comfortable. Your right (accelerator) leg will always be "cocked up" due to the accelerator placement. There is room behind the clutch and brake to extend your left foot on longer drives. The top of my head does protrude above the windscreen line. If the hood is up (rarely) and you are first at a stoplight, the honking will be the ONLY way you know it has turned green....

A friend of mine once said after seeing me drive by one day that the car looked like it needed a big wind up key attached to the boot.....

But, they are just about the prettiest thing ever created on four wheels...... I agree with you on the earlier year look...the 2 and 3 look like (with all due respect to you passionate 2 and 3 owners) like JC Whitney poster cars.

Sit in one, it's the only way you'll really know.
