I have to park my 348 at my brothers place in his 2 car garage. So naturally,i have to let him drive it to keep him happy and from telling me to f*ck the car off from his garage. But it kills me when i hear from other people all the time that they see him driving the car more than i do . That gets me wild. But i have no other secure place to park the car at the moment. :(

I will 2nd this. NEVER LEND YOUR CAR TO A FRIEND. I did this and was rewarded with a fried clutch. $3500 repair bill.

As far as letting family drive your car, I think that you should let them, if you trust them. Both of my brothers got plenty of driving in my TR and my 308. I let my cousin drive my TR with me in it, and he did just fine. I've also let a lot of friends drive my TR, and they drove it just fine. In the end, it is just a car.

  3. Let them both drive it. It's fully insured right? Years down the road you won't own the car, but the memory will stay, and you will be a hero. My Dad had a 56 Corvette in 1958, his Dad wanted him to pick him up at his job & let him drive it off. My Dad picked him up, my Grandfather jumped into the drivers seat. There in front of his co-workers he did a 6grand burnout, continuing through the gears until he was out of sight. He then pulled over, & let my Dad back into the drivers seat. My Grandfather died 40+ years ago at the ripe old age of 53. My Dad loves the story, be the show man, i.e the one who wins.

  4. I should add, that I am not saying let anyone drive it, but I think you would be fine with the two mentioned.

That's true. It looks like it is going to be storming tomorrow, so I told him that he shouldn't take it because it's gotten wild on me on wet roads. He told me that his date hasn't spoken with him since he asked her to prom, and when his friend's dad didn't reserve the limo in time, she demanded that he find a nice car to take her in. I told him that he needs to leave her sorry ass at home and find somebody that appreciates him. One of our other aunts just got a new Blk/Blk E500 yesterday, and he's going to try to hit her up for it. I just laughed.

Well, it does depend on the dad, some arent really worth much as a parent. Some may be great parents and just not have a clue how to drive. Heck, the latest James Bond can't even drive a stick shift. I about fell off a chair laughing when I heard that.

Some cars are potent and potentially dangerous to the unwitting who venture off to warp factor 9 without realising how quickly it can get there. I drove a 99 Porsche Carrera 4 some years back, at night, and a friend drove my car. We came off a clover leaf onto another freeway and I pulled away a bit and let off, not wanting to risk a ticket. Then I thought oh heck, I havnt had a ticket in years and this is a Porsche, let her fly. Well, I tached her up through the gears and found myself at the next exit I wanted like NOW, and later realised I never really knew how fast I was going because I only watched the tach.

But in answer to your question, my dad was a car guy, and liked hot stuff. at 84, with his failing vision he can no longer drive. His Harley days are long distand memories. If he were legal, I would be honored and thrilled to let him drive the Ferrari. It would make me cry to see that. You should know your Dad enough to know the answer you ask. We cant answer for your Dads ability, only you can. But if you trust him, and he's capable, why the heck not?

    I agree with Simon 100%.
It's a car, it can be fixed *IF* anything ever happened to it.

Think of the times you borrowed HIS car when you were younger, I bet you kinda sorta 'pushed' the car a few times ???????? ;)

If he rents a car and gets hurt or killed, you will be wondering if it would have happened if you had simply lent him your car. ( I know - odd thinking).

The thought of not letting my dad borrow my car never crossed my mind. My stuff is their stuff. Except the porn library. Eww. :D

perhaps he would have basis if i was talking about a stock evo like that. regrettably for him, my car is not stock, and in fact is rather heavily modified, including a larger turbo.

so yes, i do have reason to believe that my statement is correct. go ahead and laugh away, that wont make my car a bit slower

    Depends on his driving ability.

My dad is in his early 70's and is an utter menace on the roads. You can't spent more than 15 minutes in the car with him without him getting beeped by other motorists.

Drifting out of his lane (with other drivers wondering "what the hell is going on here?" Meanwhile he is completely oblivious), changing lanes and making turns without indicating, can't seem to park anywhere without scraping the kerb and hitting some part of the car, the list goes on...

The car is covered with dents, scrapes, filled with assorted junk like loose papers, banana peels...I hate to think how much $ he has spent on "touch ups".

Last year my brother borrowed my mum's car 2 weeks after he got his license to pick up a friend and drive to a movie. There was a slight complication on the way when he failed to give way at a stop sign, was T-boned, which flipped the car over onto the bonnet of another car before crashing back down to the ground, sideways.

The car was written off, and he had his provisional license extended 2 years, plus a huge fine and loss of demerit points.

Moral of the story: HAND OVER THE KEYS WITH CAUTION! Just because they're family doesn't mean they aren't completely incompetant morons.

I don't have to worry about that. My sisters can't drive stick so I have no worries about them. They couldn't even start them. My parents are to scared they would damage the cars, they would go and rent a car before they would ever ask.

I didn't read any of the posts.

I don't lend the 924 due to it's age and when you drive it you should drive with care. Also, it's fiberglass so saftey is an issue and if the fiberglass is cracked I'm screwed.

I don't lend the 540 due to the cost of repairing it.

I'll lend the 03 Pontiac Grand Am in a heart beat though! :)
