Due to our village building codes I was only able to build a 12X16 ft "out building" - (200sq ft) since I have an attached garage. It will be housing my "fun" car. The 4 models I will be contiplating getting in a couple of years is the 308, 328, 348 or Mondial coupe. I need the exact length of these cars in inches so I know what I will be able to be in the market for when the time comes. I figure for those who own these models that they would be in your manuals to find this number. I'd appreciate the info. I think the Mondial would be out - rats! 176 inches is Max I could park in there.

Thank you in advance for checking!

My second garage space is a shorty, only 175 inches long. So, I checked on the Ferrari official site and www.ferrari308.com.

The 328, with its recessed bumpers, is about 167 inches. The US-spec 308, with those black plastic bumpers, is about 172 inches.

If you're a precision parker, you could probably fit either of those. I believe the 348 is also on the short side - you might check on www.ferrariusa.com in the past models section.

My Porsche 993 is 167 inches, so I can park it in the short garage, but with little room to walk around it. The Lotus Elise, at 140 inches or something, would solve all my parking problems. But I'd only give up the 993 for a Ferrari.

Thank you for your quick and informative reply Bullfighter. My Boxster is 169 and affords me about 6 more inches I'd be able to go to. I have to watch width too, I have an acre of grass so my riding mower is in there too - Good to hear that the 328 is actually shorter than the 308, it is most likely the next car I get. I thought about the Elise too, but a Ferrari is probably the only thing I trade in the 986 for, besides maybe a Lotus Esprit. I actually have about 182 inches of room, but I need about 3 inches extra front/rear.

I thought about the Lotuses at one point, but the Esprit is a very long car (181 inches?), and the Elise didn't meet my "nice car to go out for cocktails" requirements, because no one in a skirt would ride in it.

Probably off topic for this thread, but I thought both Lotus models felt cheap inside (the Elise more so, probably because it's obsessed with being lightweight.) The 308/328 just feel more upscale. The 348 isn't quite there, IMHO, although I like its proportions and it certainly looks exotic.

Is your restriction actually 200 sq. ft. or to a specific outside dimension? You could build the "out building" to a more "Ferrari friendly" size and still be within the law, ie. 10 x 18. As long as you know which end of the nail is sharp you can easily build one of those buildings. Be sure to extra support to bear the weight of a car. If they don't know that a car is involved you may run into trouble in the future, out building OK, garage NOT OK.

Yes the Elise is the most basic car inside for sure. My wife could never get in one with out my help and the roof off. I do love the Ferrari interiors.

The building has to hold a riding mower too, so a 10X18 wouldn't work, good idea though. I just had it built last week.

I'm so glad to hear and read the entire 3x8 series will fit no problem. The 328 is an inch shorter than my current car.

Technically you can't have a DETACHED garage if you have an attached garage. When I was at the architectual review board meeting to get it passed last month, they wanted a broucher on the building as part of my info. You could see the rear of the Corvette they had parked in it for their broucher. He asked, wow it's big enough for a car, heh? My wife said immediately "that's not what were going to use it for though".

Thanks for your help, I feel better knowing I won't have a problem when the time comes. P.S. How do you get the smilie faces IN your text where you want them? When I select one, it goes next to the title area up top, what am I missing?

Click on "search" near the top left of the page. Then click on "FAQ" in the pop-up box and it will open another page. The smilie instructions are about half way down the page. I had to print the page because I kept forgeting how to do it, the result of being a greybeard. :D

    Jim,

A Mondial may still be possible. A 3.2 is 178.5" long x 70.6 wide. A 'T' should be sim length but bit wider. Unsure about the 8 or QV. I can check tonight & post.

Remember if you've got any kids a 2+2 is the only way to go!

These are for Euro's, so for a US car, I'd imagine they are at least 100-150mm longer due to the 5mph bumpers.
