I have Nikon gear and not Cannon wanted to share anyway. I am currently trying to fill more of my time with photography work again but have not really been looking at new gear. I find its better for my wallet that way plus I have the basics covered for now. The most realistic thing I will buy soon is a teleconverter because right now 200mm is the longest lens I have. Has anyone used the 1.7? I have used the 1.5 and 2, 1.5 does not add enough and I just did not think the 2 worked all that well. Cameras - D300s, D80 Lenses (Nikon) - 70-200 2.8 VR (1) - I love this lens and use it for almost everything, even at car shows it is normally on my 2nd body. - 12-24 - I really like this lens, feels solid. I normally take it with me on trips as well as my 50mm 1.8. I also use this for car to car photos. - 24-120 - I used to use this a lot but not so much any more, sometimes if I can only take one lens but even then I normally pick something more specific. - 50 1.8 - Use this lens a lot, it is really versatile (as strange as that sounds). I have started to like using this lens and merging together all of the photos. I can post examples if you want. When I start making more money I really want the 17-55 2.8 I am with Alfas that wider is better, sometimes you just can't back up. It also helps with car to car photos because the car can be closer and it will help with background blur. I personally do not always think the distortion is bad either.
I am totally confused here The new one is called II. Right? Here when I check Danish prices they are pretty much identical, infact the old one is 200 DKK more expensive LINK The Danish price is roughly $2500 USD. If I go to the English Canon site they list a price of £2700 for it, which would be 10k DKK more than here in DK. What am I missing here? Okay, it's late and I am dead tired. It just doesn't add up and I must be missing something somewhere
@$2,400!!!!! I just rented it for this weekend and it is unbelievable. Even a total noob like me can see the difference. I can't imagine what a pro would think. I was hard pressed to find a single negative comment on this lens other than the price and weight. I was just messing around shooting the kids in the pool in the dying light and it was effortless to get great shots. Hopefully I'll get some decent shots this weekend to show.
The new one is the II. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/680103USA/Canon_2751B002_EF_70_200mm_f_2_8L_IS.html
That's really odd. MSRP for the II is 25% higher than the I. http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/cameras/ef_lens_lineup/ef_70_200mm_f_2_8l_is_usm http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/cameras/ef_lens_lineup/ef_70_200mm_f_2_8l_is_ii_usm
I own the Nikon TC-17 II teleconverter and I use it with the 70-200 frequently. It is a good compromise between the 1.4 and 2.0 teleconverters. Effectively, it makes it a 119mm to 340mm f/4.8 lens. The image quality is still very good, but definitely not as good as using the 70-200 without the teleconverter. Also, the blurred backgrounds are not as nice with the teleconverter on, they seem busier to me. Otherwise it is a great and affordable option to get extra reach. Here are a few of the pictures I have taken with the 70-200 and teleconverter: http://www.flickr.com/search/?ss=2&w=91281848%40N00&q=nikkor70-200f%2F2.8+teleconverter&m=text The 17-55 2.8 is also a gem, the image quality it produces is spectacular. My only complaint is that it is not a VR lens, that would make it perfect to me.
That 1.7 drops what, 1 and 1/2 stop (I'm guessing 4.8 is half a stop faster than 5.6)? Kinda cool. I wish canon made something between the 1.4 and 2.0.
Thanks for the link and information Pars, the photos look good. Once I have a few races to shoot I will have to pick one up this summer.
I concede....I was looking back at my vacation photos from the mediterranean today, 5D + 17-40. Image Unavailable, Please Login

It seems as though there are mostly Canon users on this forum, but since this is a lens thread I thought I would post this here. Nikon released a 28mm F/1.8 lens this week, it is for FX and DX cameras. The link is here: http://www.nikonusa.com/Nikon-Products/Product/Camera-Lenses/2203/AF-S-NIKKOR-28mm-f%252F1.8G.html I am anxious to see some reviews of this lens once it gets out.
Ill let you know if I can make a good combi deal out of thi. The store need to give me a serious price cut. I think I deserve it. All electronics I have bought since 2005 have been bought in that store. Thats more than 100k I have payed them. Now I want a bit in return.
