Does anyone have Canon's 200mm f2.8? I've heard it's a great lens, just wondering about comparing it to the 70-200mm f4 non-IS, close prices used.

The 200 f2.8 is sharper. Also, it's black which is a bit less obvious.

That's what I heard and I have a feeling it would do better if I wanted to throw a TC on it. I'm just wondering how much I would miss the 105-200 range. Though with the crop ability of the 5D2 I'm not sure I'd miss it at all.

It's not that much sharper (the little 70-200 is one of the sharpest zoom lenses made,) so I'd only go with the 200 if you need the speed (i.e. you actually plan on using a 1.4x frequently to get a near 300mm lens and want the brighter viewfinder) or you want the shallow DOF effect you can get with the 2.8. Otherwise the baby white would be my choice for it's flexibility.

Have you thought about the 70-300 f4.5-5.6 IS?

I swore to myself long ago that I would never buy another non-L zoom lens, everyone I've had just hasn't been worth it. I don't *need* the speed of the 2.8 so the 70-2 might be better then.

Bunch of rebates coming on canon lenses and speedlites.

200 off the 70-200 II. Did you get that? If not, you should try to.

I got roughly 4k DKK off mine at the store where I bought it.

All in all I got it for around $2700.

Most places here seem to sell it for $3300+

Number 3 is ashes from the boiler. It was V-E-R-Y windy so I got my bro to throw it up in the air while I took pics. I was standing like 10-20 meters away.

Saving my pennies for a 35mm prime 1.8 Nikkor. Was bouncing between it and the 50mm but I think I want the lesser 'zoom' of the two. Cant wait!

Found a really good deal on an older 70-200 f2.8, $825 shipped for a '98 model with flawless glass and still fairly good cosmetic shape. I had decided I was going to get the 200mm f2.8, but if I can get zoom for another $150 it's a no brainer.

Its not really a lens but I just got the Nikon 1.7 Teleconverter in the mail yesterday to use with my 70-200 2.8VR. I have not used it yet but I read good things, I have used the 2.0 and it seems to really slow the auto focus down. Hopefully this will be better.

My experience is that it does slow, but with the proper techniques they work well. The tripod is your friend, you can't get away from the fact that you will be using light when you use them. In the worst case, with older camera bodies, autofocus won't work due to the low light levels.
