I have just fulfilled my dream and bought a 348GTS.

I have just fulfilled my dream and bought a 348GTS. Now the problems start!

Somehow I seem to have caught leprosy or something because after having had a drivers' license for 30 years, 28 years no claims bonus, no convictions and being 48 years old, no insurer wants to know me anymore!

Württembergische has sent me the application to be filled out but on the telephone it seemed very apparent that they weren't really too interested in my custom. Their brochure says that they insure ALL Ferraris, but they greatly hesitated when they discovered the 348GTS wasn't in their list.

The brochure says Europe-wide no problem. On the telephone this migrated to "only exceptionally" and then only very briefly and they asked if the car would be in a locked garage when I have it abroad! I'd only heard good things about the Württ up to now - am I being over sceptical? Perhaps the people are just a bit stressed near to Christmas.

Other insurers wanted to take only long standing good customers. Unfortunately, I was a 22 year long standing good customer of the HUK, and they don't insure Ferraris!

Others would only insure if the car was the second or third car insured by them. My first car is a company car, so that shot a hole in that one.

Does anyone out there have a tip? I don't want to think I've got good cover only to discover I infringed some small print if it comes to making a claim! Or can anyone confirm that the Württ is good?

Unfortunately I'm not a Company boss with a fleet insurance nor a Car Trader with red trade plates. I just want a decent insurance for a car which has a value less than most Mercedes and a claims statistic probably less than a Golf GTi!

    Drew

PS: I apologise now for using leprosy as a punchy catch phrase. It is not my style to misuse ailments to get attention, but I'm afraid the treatment I'm getting at the moment is much akin to a middle-age prejudice.

    Wolfgang,

in actual fact I meant middle-age like Spanish inquisition and witch burning!

    PMSL!!!

I'm waayyy past middle-age, but not grown up yet!

Growing old is mandatory; growing up is optional.

All my cars have their insurance with AXA at present. F-car was no problem.

    However, I didn´t ask for "Vollkasko"-insurance or even "Teilkasko"-insurance.

That sort of ties up, AR! I think in Germany that EVERY insurer is obliged by law to offer to anyone the legal third party insurance.

But if your F-car leaves you for someone else? I'm surprised at anyone with a Ferrari and no insurance against theft!

It´s just a 93 Mondial. This car is not marketable in Eastern Europe.

My personal philosophy is to just cover those risks by an insurance which I couldn´t afford.
