OK guys, I have been noticing that over the past few weeks my car has become harder and harder to get into gear ... especially cold. I figured that since my 30k service is next week, I have them change from the stock oil to redline super ... I started to wonder if maybe the oil drops I have been seeing on the ground (only 5-10 overnight) were maybe from my tranny and not from a cam seal as I had originally suspected. So I looked at the tranny dip stick ... and found that the oil level was inbetween the low and high ... maybe slightly lower than higher. I decided to top it off to full just in case (all I had as the purple stuff 75W90). There was immediate difference, car shifts into first with no issue ... even cold! second still needed a little warm up, but definately much improved.

The only trip I will be doing with this oil in the tranny is to the shop for the service and new oil, but it is amazing to see the difference in how the car shifts ... and it was not even below the low level!

Sorry for the stupid question, but I like to be clear. Is the "purple stuff", Royal Purple gear oil? Interesting, other individuals have sworn-by Redline to easy shifting, quite gear box noise, etc. Each gear box may be slightly different to how it responds to a specific gear box oil. Thanks for the post.

Sorry for the weak thread! Yes royal purple 75W90 meets gl4 and 5. It was the only oil I could find at the local auto shops. What the lesson learned was that in my car ... the lower the level was on the stick ... the crappier it shifted ... even though the level was well within the "safe" marks. I really do not think the royal purple was the difference simply because the car has always shifted fine ... even with the Ferrari oil.

The bigger question becomes ... where am I leaking the tranny oil from ... any guesses

Yeah brother. Gear oil has to be around the "full mark". Not overful, because that will also cause crap shifting. :p:p

Not enough oil and you get the SAME crap shifting!! :D:D

    Crazy stuff hey? ;);)

Tranny oil leaking from CV shaft output seals? (Just taking a wild guess!!) :D:D

If it is the CV seal. There is just an o-ring behind a nut to replace. But you have to remove the Axle on that side to get to it.
