Looks like a White Christmas after all...
I'm at work, and you should hear the whining. They all need to leave RIGHT NOW because it's dangerous outside. Except that it's 35 degrees and not freezing. Bah. Humbug.
We've had sleet and snow here although none really on the ground, at one point you couldn't see across the road to the neighbor's house. The big horses have been quite active running and chasing each other (I think Aspen is remembering her youth in the CO mountains and being covered with icecicles!). Still snowing lightly with a temp of 35F and 33 mph W winds. Time to go feed cows/horses/dogs and fix the listing deer in my outside Christmas decoration herd. Merry Christmas everyone. Carol & John
It been fairly steady over on the west side. People are still trying to defy physics in order to complete their last minute shopping frenzy. It sure is keeping emergency services busy.
Today I love my Subaru even more... Just played a one hour session of "Idiot Dodging"... Love driving around big pickup trucks sliding off the road.
I'm in Purcell Oklahoma stuck in a blizzard. It is very bad here. Could not see 10 feet in front of the car. Fortunately pulled into hotel where it is full but was able to get a room. I have some new found respect for mother nature.
We got in from shopping about an hour ago. Cold wind, lots of blowing sleet and snow It's still coming down here in Lakewood but not sticking to streets. Pretty, though...closest thing to a "White Christmas" I've seen in a long time.
Hey, my Texas friends, Merry Christmas & Happy New Year - and please, whether you're driving the Ferrari or the barn pickup truck, be careful with this slippery stuff. Cheers all, Hank

It took me 1 1/2 hours to make it home from work yesterday. I work behind the Hulen mall in Fort Worth and live in North Richland Hills, usually a 30 minute drive. I counted 14 vehicles off the road and three accidents in the 25 miles...I got stuck going up a slight incline when a 4x4 Toyota pickup lost it and slid sideways and stopped on the incline directly in front of me. He closed two lanes of 820 while he tried to jockey back straight. My little '86 BMW 325 had some difficulty getting traction to start back up the incline after coming to a complete stop but I eventually drove around him in the snow on the shoulder. More traction in the snow than on the ice on the road. And it was really only about 1/8 inch thick ice but it was black ice making it even more dangerous. Especially with Christmas Eve traffic in the metroplex. Lots of pickups and other drivers who want to drive the same way as normal. Medstar actually had ambulances out with their lights on driving 20 mph in the middle lane to slow crazy drivers down.... First white Christmas for the metroplex in 80 years.......I am sure it is all due to the global warming we are experiencing......

Great pictures Phil! I would have been stuck out west if I hadn't left San Angelo at 12:30 am on Wed night/Thurs morning. Made for a long, wet trip but the freeze line was behind me by about 30 minutes the entire way.
My sister-in-laws sister and brother-in-law,,whatever kin that is to me,,needed to be in Rowlett at 7pm Christmas night. They left Big Spring at 11am Christmas morning. When they got to Abilene they were actually held up for 45 minutes by an actual snowplow working I-20. They said that traffic was only moving about 10-15 mph. They said it cleared about Weatherford and they were able to fly from there on in. They arrived in Rowlett at 7pm. What is normally a 4 1/2 hour drive took them 8 hours and he said they drove 80-85 mph from Weatherford to Rowlett. Thank goodness none of us ended up in Wichita Falls, Texas. A real blizzard there buried cars and trucks. Only 7 inches of snow but 40 -50 mph winds made it a whiteout and produced drifts that were 6 feet at some places on the interstate.... you got that right Will! John said it was snowing in Denton at 5:15 and there was slush on one of the overpasses (probably closed in the am) and it's been sleeting on and off with periods of rain here at the house all afternoon, now it's becoming foggy. The mini's water tanks had ice on them this am. Tomorrow morning should be "very interesting". Hillsboro wx is showing unavailable - great! Carol
