I’ll do you one better. IMVHO, as far as turbocharged cars go, the 488 is one of the better souding out there.

Thank you for taking the time to further detail your point.

    Kindest regards,

    Nuno.

Only other cars I considered before buying 488 was 720s and 600LT, decided against because of sound, 488 was much better but bigger factor was turbo lag. They are fast cars but you feel the lag. Ferrari did an amazing job with 488 in eliminating lag

What can be gleaned from all the divergent opinions, is that super car priorities and preferences are personal and subjective.

Curious how you drove the 720? I find the lack of lag in the 720 almost the same as the 488. 488 is superb no doubt but unless Im in 5th gear at 35 mph in the 720 - I find there to be zero lag on the car. What mode did you drive the 720 in?

Sounds like you don't care about sound! (pun intended) It's so subjective and personal. Sound is why I don't have a Tesla. Sound is why I'm struggling over moving on from the V-8 to the V-12. Both wonderful, but different. Post Covid, I may not be able to have both.

Teslas are fun, esp if you're a street light warrior. Any true gear head will appreciate the otherworldly acceleration.

yeah virtually no lag in the 720, the 570 is another story. Makes you wonder if it was really driven and how.

570 is terrible. Couldn’t stand the drive. Same with 12C and 650. 720 is almost as good as the 488 which is spectacular. 720 is no slouch either when it comes to lag.

Turbo lag can be entertaining on the street. Annoying as heck in a race car.

I relate to what you’ve just wrote. Couldn’t agree more. The complete absence of lag was probably the thing that single handedly impressed me the most about the 488 (I was already braced for a huge amount of torque, so no surprise there).

    Kind regards,

    Nuno.

Was a couple years ago and I don't remember mode, was a pretty short test drive and was in whatever sales guy had it in. Might have been different if I got to wring it out a bit but wasnt able to. This was also the first TT car I had ever driven, 3 prior cars were V10's which I supercharged and was more use to that very instant rush of TQ

Likely you weren't in Track mode which is how I drive my car every time. Either way, all good but if you get the chance to drive on in the proper settings, do so. I think you will agree, no lag similar to the 488.

600LT definitely has more noticeable lag and its steering feel is worse than the 720s, in my hour long test drive of both cars. 488 has least amt of lag out of all three.

100% agreed. No need to be silent. I,'m so utterly fed up with this ********. It's the same damn story every time someone comes on and asks about a 488 purchase. Then we get the usual cult members trying to brainwash the new guy. But you're absolutely right, and it's such a joke. We have people flapping their jaw about how pure the 458 is and how big driving enthusiasts they are. But if driving is key and you have a sportscar to DRIVE it, there's nothing to argue about. And if someone claims to be a well trained driver with the ability to not only sense what the car is doing, but also push it hard, then that person is obviously also capable of understanding how many flaws the 458 has as an actual sportscar. Not saying the 488 is perfect, it is far from it, but it is still better than a 458.
Let's list the issues that seriously compromises the 458 in terms of performance.

    Understeer into next week
    Little to no brake feel
    Mediocre brake performance
    Overly sensitive throttle
Jerky gear shifts that only serves to upset the balance
    Twitchy steering
Ungodly chassis flex from the Spider

These are all very real issues, some of which both the Pista and 488 still suffers from, but to a much lesser degree.

If someone is a driving enthusiast whom track and do drivers training, I cannot for the life of me see how getting away from these faults is not the priority. Sure if you're a cruiser or if you are into the "show, not go" aspect of it, and value your car as a status symbol, sure, by all means get the louder car. But stop arguing that it is fast enough as an objective absolute just because it is all YOU need. I have stated elsewhere that I think it feels slow now a days. Yes we as humans evolve, and some of us gets more used to speed and accelleration than others. I had an interesting experience of stepping right out kf a 488 and into a GT3RS. I actually thought the clutch had let go. Why so much noise but so little forward motion? That's the exact same feeling I get in a 458. Lots of "loud" but not a lot of motorvation going on - it's like a peacock strutting its stuff.

It has gotten so old reading the same indoctrinating chant over and over. Yes we get it, you prefer sound over performance and the Pinin badge is more important than the goofy smile, the moustache and the rather understated design - style over substance as it were. But could the 458 cult please give it a rest trying to tell the rest of us how to think and what would be enough for us? Thanks a bunch.

If this was the level of insight and honesty with which people argued this case, then they should all drive F355's or 360CS cars. But no, and that's were the double standard is. On one had you have the 458 ownsers arguing that the 458 is more than enough, many say too fast in fact, and then they tell those of us who feel that we can tap into what a 488 or Pista has to offer that the sound is more important than the performance. If a 458 owner both argues that the car is too fast and sound is key, I ask again, why not a 355 or a CS? They sound a million times better than the monotone blaring noise coming from the 458 and you can flog them endlessly as they don't have "too much power". It's a double standard.

Hmmm. I suppose that's why I prefer the 488 and Pista. I also prefer a passionate moaner to a pornstar screamer:D

Keep in mind it was SoCal to az that stirred this **** up again, NOT a 458 owner. Then you proceed to demean a car many of us consider wonderful, implying it is better suited for “show no go” posers, people who don’t know how to appreciate and dissect a “real sports car,” so then also demeaning 458 owners as well...all because ostensibly we 458 owners are insulting to you.
    Okay, right, gotcha.
Oh, and you have the skillz to state a GT3RS is “slow,” as is the 458...arrogant?
Neither the 458 nor the 488 are designed as track cars, they are road cars. A great many of us extremely experienced and aggressive drivers know full well that on the public roads, where other people drive with their families, that there is no way in hell your 488 is going to outperform me in my 458...period. The car has far more than enough performance for road use, and yes sound adds to the exotic car driving experience and so the 488 comes up short against it.
By the way this isn’t an indoctrinating chant, I really couldn’t care less what car someone else chooses to buy and drive...this is me responding directly to your unsolicited barbs against a car I know how to appreciate, and barbs against the owners and driver’s of that wonderful machine.

Its gotten quite comedic to observe.
Its Ok to like your car but why trash others? I wished there were separate forums so we didnt have to endure the insecure comedy.

Now you state we lack insight and honesty otherwise we’d choose a 355 over a 458; this is so idiotic it doesn’t merit a reasoned response.

I think it's like a Pista and 488. If you ride it properly and hard enough, you get plenty of sound - and it feels so rewarding;)
