No surprise that I've dreamed of owning a Ferrari and with the current conditions I think in the next year or two, maybe three, a 360 is a possibility. Just need to justify it and learn about the maintenance costs and upkeep. This would be a fair weather car, etc., and well cared for. The scheduled service, belts and fluids does not bother me but random $5-10K bills would annoy me very quickly. I'm not in a major rush for this purchase and actually think waiting 12-18 months, or longer if necessary will give some time for the prices to come down a bit more. I'm not looking to buy the cheapest 360 out there but do not see paying 100K for what can be had for 80K (?) in a year or so.

Ideally a red/tan 6sp manual 360 spider is what I would be looking for when the time comes. Not about to get into the garage queen/low mile debate but I think mileage in the teens would be about right for me. Hopefully keep the car for a while and if the desire hits me to upgrade or exit the Fcar world for a while I would be able to sell the 360 and not lose much money.

That's my plan for now and I am sticking to it! My Boxster S will have to keep me happy for a summer or two and then on to an Fcar.

    welcome to F-Chat!!!!!! :)
You cannot justify such a purchase.

Could be a deal breaker, seriously.

    good man.

Nice car, and with the engine in the correct place!

A person purchasing any Ferrari save a dealer-delivered new one should have $10K in cash set aside, and be ready to spend it. Period.

Thanks for the advice. I am still in the thinking about it stage. I like not thinking about taking my fair weather car out now and not stressing about resale, adding miles to the car, etc. I wonder if I would drive the Fcar as frequently (hopefully 5-10K per year) and not worry about every little thing. I am sure the fun factor would be 10x in an Fcar though.

Not if you worry about $10-15k.

Seriously, if that would torque you it would be no fun.

    Just saying.

For now I am going to enjoy my Pcar, go to a few C&C's, continue my research on here and the web and over the next several months come to a conclusion if an Fcar would be right for me. Sure I have dreamed of one since I was young but I will not rush out and buy one if it is not a good fit.

If the repair costs are a major concern and you really want a F-car, you may to consider a newer model (F-430) which can be certified by Ferrari. I think you can buy a certified car as long as the car in not older than 7 years or more than 56,000 miles if I am not mistaken. That's what I did. But then you spend more on the car but you do get a newer model typically with lesser miles also. That's the route I decided to go.

Still only thinking about it at this point. The local C&C is five minutes from me so I will be there often and will be paying close attention to the Fcars and getting to know the owners well, hopefully. I'm not all about the price but hopefully the prices will come down a bit. I have exchanged a few PM's with members who have bought well cared for 360's in the low 80's. I'd be happy with that price but if they dipped into the 70's that would be fantastic. Spider would be ideal but I will see what the market does.

I'm coming from owning a boat for the past 10 years and know all too well the repair bills associated with engines, etc. What I also learned it what could do on my boat for $25 in parts would cost me $550 for the time traveled, parts and labor when a mechanic did the job. I'm not about to do any major work on my Fcar (if I got one) but routine oil changes, brake jobs, etc., I would more than likely handle on my own.

    Time will tell.

Stay in touch and keep us posted. I am driving my first F-car now and bought it certified. I have heard the newer models are pretty darn rock solid. I'll let you know my own experiences! :)

After exchanging numerous PMs on here and searching as many 360 threads as I can find, I am pretty comfortable with the reliability and maintenance of the car. I am not jumping into this and will wait till the weather breaks and I can meet up with a few Fcar owners at the local C&C and possibly join in on the spring drive as well to look over these cars up close and meet the owners. After doing that and making sure I still want a 360 I will move forward.

The shopping process seems to be a long time which I am fine with. Several of the owners mentioned shopping for almost two years. Hopefully that is not my case providing I move forward. The recent prices seem to be attractive so if the right car came along within the next 6 months I would probably make a move rather than wait just for the sake of waiting. Not looking for the cheapest 360 out there but plenty have been purchased in the mid-upper $60's and throughout the $70's as well. I do not have a particular budget in mind but if others are buying well taken care of, all services completed cars for $70K I don't see my wanting to spend more than $75K. Now the wish list.....red/tan 6sp manual, well cared for, no stories, etc. for $70K. Think it is possible???
