OK, here is what I am thinking: a 2000 calorie a day diet will give me a sufficient calorie deficit to lose a pound or so a week. A few parameters: my schedule at work is variable, so I will be eating at non traditional times...sometimes, I don't get off until 1am other times I am due in at 5 am...work hours are typically during times when others eat meals. I am thinking a 40(protein) 30 (fat) 30 (carbs) ratio divided into 6 portions...4 meals 2 snacks...The good news is I like almost everything...notable exception is oatmeal...just can't eat it....further I am not hung up on eating tradition foods a traditional times...ie. I don't need eggs for breakfast or a meat and potatoes meal at night. So, lets put our minds to it and design a diet for me. Lets get out of the breakfast, lunch, dinner box and call it something else based on energy needs and time between opportunities to eat...the longest interval...sleep excluded...will be about 6 hours. Thoughts? BTW, budget is a major concern as is ease of preparation.

Ive been on a 1800 cal diet for a few months now

Some of the things i eat

Tuna with a little non fat mayo on half a whole wheat bun and a slice of low fat swiss
Turkey breast w mustard on half a whole wheat bun and a slice of low fat swiss
Campbells soup (they have a few that are only 100 cal per can)
Grilled chicken breast with spinach bell pepper and broccoli (usually throw in some red pepper and curry)
One egg on half a whole wheat bagel
Mahi fish tacos from baja fresh (get them plain and put your own low fat condiments on them)
Subway has a bunch of low cal choices if you lay off the fatty sauces

At the beginning I was losing 3 lbs week. Now its about 1.5 lb week. Lost about 40 lbs since March 1st but probably more since I am building muscle weight lifting 5 days week.

I have been fooling around with it some...haven't really measured calories yet, but I am finding that cottage cheese goes well with most everything and adds protein with few caloies...as for fats, I am trying to take them as good fats...avacado, nuts etc...basically avoiding trans fat...broccoli raw or cooked has become a staple, carrots for when I need some sugar...probabally eating more fruit than I should, but it is easy and generally self contained....if you like tomatoes, a tomato and cottage cheese bowl along with tuna mixed with mustard is one of my favorites...I have not cut red meat out entirely, but limit my intake...so far its too soon to report results except to say that my body seems to be functioning better...easier to sleep, bowels regulating, dehydrations not so much of a problem...btw, I am driking an enormous amount of water...around 120 oz per day....trying to put together a trail mix that I can keep on hand at work to nibble on...so far its still a guessing game, but the Welch
s dried fruit is my candy substitute.

All that sounds good, and I am basically on the same "diet", even though I hate that term. I totally quit eating any type of bread when I started and I lost 3 pounds in about 8 days. Started back on my 4 mile run every other day and to this point I have lost about 8 pounds and I started everything about a month ago. You are on the right track just add some type of exercise in there.
