When someone does a re-trim of something like a Sparco general market seat, it’s hard to make comparisons because you don’t have an OE version to compare it to. I can already see some flaws in it.

The way I see it … unless it looks like OE or better and difficult to distinguish, the effort and sacrifice isn’t worth it. People have to be able to look at inside a car and say to themselves, “wow, that looks OE.”

Here’s another re-trim when a Ferrari guy sees, he knows it doesn’t have an OE look. The finer details aren’t there.

Here’s a whole entire 355 interior well executed by Juddscoachtrimmimg in the UK. It all looks very OE, until you pay close attention to the leather chosen. It’s smooth napa leather, which is fine if you’re re-doing the entire interior to match.

I spoke with Judds also in great length. Although he’s in the UK, he refuses to use Connolly Autolux as he feels the new generation looks like processed vinyl (his words). He’s the one who told me Connolly would be willing to do an OE spec for a batch order.

As you can see, I’ve done a ton of research (years) so far and going about as carefully as possible. I feel like I’ve seen it all. I don’t go about things just willy nilly. I would be shocked to see someone carry this specific project through successfully without my involvement. There’s a reason no one has even made a proper attempt or even simply a proper re-trim in 20+ years. They either don’t have the capital, knowledge, know-how, desire, focus, attention to detail, or the goddam seats … let alone the best-looking narrow version ;).

You go boy! Personal expectations, definitely do it how one wants, I totally get that you clearly have exacting standards if nothing else just for your own satisfaction. I get that. So don't compromise your vision. Especially with those seats. As to why others don't care quite so much... its is not a mystery.

Yes. I cleaned my seats. I haven’t gotten a chance to fully restore them. Should look better by then. Same case with any 348/355 interior. I was posting just to show how distinct the grain is. It has a rougher look… like an older leather jacket. I like that appeal.

Did someone say CF Daytona seats?

Yes, we slightly modified the top of the seat from roundish to squareish.

Also, I can tell you that trying to match the existing leather is a fool's errand. The leather on your car is 25 years old. it's never going to match new leather. I replaced all the leather with new Connolly Vaumol in the correct period colors. Yes, it was a large expense. But if you love your 355 then maybe it's worth it to you too.

They are OEM carbon seats. They were tan/black at the time I acquired them.

I brought them to Fernando at Prestige Auto Upholstery in North Hollywood. Fernando is an expert at Daytona seats.

Fernando had an actual Daytona Spider in the shop at that time. We attempted to model the upper portion of the seat off the more square Daytona seat, which we thought fit the angular 355 better than the original style of the OEM seat, which was very round. No changes were made to the structure of the seat. It was just padding and leather to achieve the desired result.

I selected the colors from an original Connolly Vaumol sample book. From there we looked at samples from three Connolly Vaumol manufacturers and selected one, which turned out to be the manufacturer that Fernando originally recommended. BTW, none of the black samples I reviewed would have perfectly matched the existing leather on the car. Leather ages. There's no way a new piece of leather will look like a 25 year old piece of leather.

Fernando did the rest. He had the car for 2 -3 months and I popped over a couple times when he wanted me to make a decision. It was pretty simple.

I bought a U.S. car with the factory cf sport seats. Has anyone figured out how many were spec'd from the factory with these rare seats? I've read that only 4% of the total F355 production have them.

I’d say it’s less than that worldwide and even less in the U.S.

4% would imply roughly 1 in 20 cars. I feel like it's closer to 1 in 50 cars.

My hunting would suggest it's closer to 1/50 or even 1/100 than anywhere near 1/20.

I've seen more Serie Fioranos for sale in the U.S than cars equipped with carbon sport seats :).

I haven't seen a single Spider optioned with the seats, so I'm guessing that they weren't available from the factory. That leaves Berlinettas and GTS', which mine is. The sport seats are more prevalent in Euro or RHD cars and I would say that less than 1 in 100 U.S. cars have them based on my research.

Correct. Never came on Spiders. It's also up for debate if the seats would even work in a Spider.
