Looks like you live in the area where a lot of empty stright highways is all around. Your early sunday morning drive should be a lot of fun for you.

    Pat,
Thanks for the warm welcome. I just stumbled across this site a few days ago. I must say it feels like home! It's great to see others having as much fun with their cars as I do with mine. It's also refreshing to hear that others perform their own maintanance as well. Up until now, I thought most Ferrari owners dropped their cars at the dealer and got out their checkbook. I've spent some time digging through the archives and enjoyed reading posts of other members "projects" with their 308's. Susupension rebuilds, superchargers, brake upgrades, etc. There's something rewarding about tuning a car to perfection and then going on that maiden test drive to feel the results good or bad.
By the way, I love your Fly Yellow 308. Very sharp!

As for the valve adjustment, my car really didn't need it, as it was just done at it's 30K, but I put on new t belts and had some valve cover gaskets in the garage already so I figured what the heck! I also needed to replace a seeping cam seal on the distributor side. Forward bank, so fun for me!
Anyway, I really can't give you much feedback on the performance before and after because I only shimmed three valves a few thousandths. I will say this: excess valve train clearance is the same as losing lift AND duration on your cams so performance would suffer (probably noticable) if it's very far out of factory tolerance.

    " That's a rare car, but pretty! "

Thanks Mike. I'm told it is rare to find a QV GTB. I wasn't really aware when I bought it. I just liked the looks and didn't feel I'd ever remove the top on a GTS. I wanted a black car, but ended up with black metallic. I think the correct term is Nero, but I could be wrong. In any event it's real pretty when it's all shined up and looks good surrounding the tan leather interior. It also has the options I was seeking in factory 16" alloys, euro front spoiler, and the little wing on the engine cover. I plan on doing some mods of my own this Fall and will be sure to keep all of you informed as I go along. Maybe someone can learn from the process like I have already reading threads on this site.

If there's a gathering or better yet a track event coming up soon in the Mid-Atlantic, please let me know. I'd like to meet some of you and see your cars in person.

    John

    Mike,
I failed to mention how cool your QV is. Seems you have the best of both worlds. GTB look with GTS open air capabilities. Hats off to you for thinking outside the box! Now if it were only black....

    Hi John,
I am very impress with many owners in this forum doing their maintaining job themself. Here in Thailand, labors still cheap compare to the US. For my car, since it is a carburator, it cost me only $40 labor (not Ferrari Thailand dealer) to change the timing belt. But parts are very expensive. Since the labor here are so cheap and there are many good mechnics and understand Ferraris. I heard many Ferraris were shipped here for restoration and shipped back when finished. Many 250GT and the Daytonas.
I have no ideas when was the last time my car have had valve adjustment. It was with me for 6 monthes. Ferrari Thailand dealer charge me about $600 parts and labor for valve adjustment. That's why I want to do it when it is needed.

    Hello Patpong,

What exactly are you going to modify? Nothing too much at the exterior I hope right? It looks perfect as it is right now!! Really a very sharp and exclusive 308! I particular like the shot from above, beautifull !!!!

Lovely car, nice engine shots. Do you drive the car without airbox? Do not you have spittings ( lean mixture ) at partial load ( about 75 mph steady speed)?

see that? That is GORGEOUS. the 308 was effortlesslesly beautiful. It was sleek, it was sexy, and it wasnt merely TRYING to be attractive like modena, it just WAS. Thats whaT I mean when I say Pinin and Ferrari has lost its edge and passion. I partly blame it on cars having to grow with people, as fatter people demand a fatter car, but styling just got blobby and heavy handed. 360 doesnt look anymore like a exotic woman about to punce, it looks like an overdone supermodel skank, vaguely attractive but FAR too much makeup and pomp. In other words, fake

    Thank you Joren,
Nothing on the exterior. I like it the way it is.
The modify will be small. Only on the exhaust. I will
use the Thermo-tec exhaust wrap to wrap all exhaust.
    see attached.
It was recommended be a friend who had it done. It
will keep heat inside the exhaust and therefore travel out
faster and pull cool air in the carb. faster as well. So gain
in horsepower. After the wrap, I need to tune the carb to
match the new air flow rate. It also reduce hear within
engine compartment. That's it for modification. If you
have other modification that I should do please advice.

I cannot agree more, Innotech. I believe the market and sale department of Ferrari now has major effect on the design as well. The number of car to sell is established before design and design is to favour that number. Price of new cars has to be more than the previous model so the car gets bigger to be reasonable. I believe that in time, the 308 will be more value than other 3's series the same way that the Dino's are three times that of the 308 eventhough the 308 was a newly improved, more expensive and more powerful model to replace the Dino then.
