The F12 looks as if it is getting a bit fat, with age ! The 550 has the undisputed elegance, and beauty of line. Wins the beauty contest hands-down.

    like the thread i started......

seeing them side by side, makes the f12 look like some kind of 'transformers' prop, instead of a car.

No overheating problem with that one.

Always thought it would be nice to have a Maranello with a Type 140 engine in her. Just about any of them from the Enzo to the 812 would be interesting. Might be rough on tires, though.

Sort of like the guy who had a 275 GTB/4 engine in a Lusso.

The fun of THAT idea vastly exceeds the potential tire cost of that idea.

Detailing Dynamics has cared for the paint for the 11 years I have had her. They are the best.

Lussos are sort of heavy handling Taz; I'd rather see a Lusso body on a 275GTB chassis. The wheelbase (2400mm) is correct BUT the f & r tracks of the 275 are wider, so OK, I'll buy your bastard. :) Though the greater torque of the 275 might do harm to the Lusso's solid axle :-(

Not a great photo, I am afraid, but I took this last weekend on Plymouth Hoe, part of our local 70th. anniversary celebration. All three 550s present arrived at the same time ans so were parked together - no pre-planning at all, must have been telepathic!

I mt is a shame that Ferrari dod not offer this car like this. With an automatic, this would be the ultimat "glider"... I like it alot. should have been silver or even ehite eluld have been cool here.

I got to drive it several years ago. It felt tight for a Straman-cut convertible. It was very enjoyable - like driving a not-so-fast Maranello with no roof. Only three 456s were ever cut, so this car is one of three.

Wow! The article said it was for sale for 80K or thereabouts. A bargain for a drop top Ferrari V12. The red example appears to be a manual transmission. How was the sound with the top down?

I can't say I agree with the automatic part, but I understand it.

But I agree, it would've been nice in a different color scheme. I've grown weary of red/tan Ferraris, but this one looked good. But, still, it would've been cool a different color.

It sounded great, but I don't remember the type of exhaust with which it was equipped. I love convertibles, so I was relishing in driving such a unique car with an open top. It was awesome. But I inspected and drove a Schumacher Edition 456M that wasn't firing on all cylinders, and the cut 456 seemed no faster than that car.

I have both a 2002 M3 conv SMG, 2002 Maserati Cambiocorsa and a 2002 XK8 conv with real oil pan automatic, and the ride in the Kag is som much smoother than the rest, so for a convertible cruiser kind of car, an auto is in my opinion unreplacable. On a 550 Barchetta though..... You got to have that stick!

Aside from a 458 Spider (paddles, obviously, so technically an automatic), I've never driven any automatic car that was as fun as a manual. They're so engaging - especially the older ones, where you have to pay attention to EVERYTHING. But in the end, I understand how and why automatics are important to others.

The 550 Barchetta (ALL 550s) demands a manual transmission, and that's why none of them have paddles or PRND. Ferrari didn't introduce paddles in the V12 line until the introduction of the 575M.

This url claims this is another of the three.

    Black over beige.

Anyone know the color of the third example?
