    Let's settle once and for all ..........

    For equal in value;

    ..... a Testarossa with $30,000 cash VS a 512TR

    or ... a Koenig Testarossa VS a 512TR......???

    or ... a Norwood tune Testarossa VS a 512TR.....???

    Which is better...??? Which make more sense...??? Which would you pick....???

    You are a nut! That TR racer is incredible. Not to get off subject, but how does it compare to the F40?

    When I went through this debate years ago, I chose the 512TR. Much of it has to do with how much you want to spend. There are significant differences between the two cars and the price reflects that difference. Whether these differences are meaningful to you is a personal decision. I am one of those people who is subject to suffering buyer’s remorse and am willing to pay more to avoid it. Being in the fortunate position of having enough funds to be able to purchase a 512TR, if I had bought the Testarossa, I would always have second guessed myself as to whether I should have sprung a little more money and gotten a 512TR. There are several reasons why I probably would have second guessed my decision if I had purchased a Testarossa instead of the 512TR:

    1. Performance- The 512TR’s performance is consistently regarded as being superior to that of the TR. Admittedly, in the real world this difference is likely to be marginal. However, every time that I stepped on the gas in a TR I would wonder how much faster I would be in a 512TR. For most people, including myself, this is more of a mental issue than a real world issue.

    2. Evolution- I bought a 94 512TR which was just about as high up on the evolutionary ladder as you can get with this model, without going to a 512M. This gave me significant comfort, as I felt that all the bugs had been sorted out. This model also has ABS. In reading some of the threads on Fchat about the rear differential weakness of the Testarossa, I feel that this would have added a sense of insecurity in owning a Testarossa. I bought the car to enjoy, not to worry about.

    3. Style- I personally liked the design elements of the 512TR over the earlier models, both in the interior and in the front grill and bumper design.

    4. Cost of Ownership- While the 512TR costs more initially, it seems to have retained its value and if the same is true with the Testarossas then, other that the time value of money, the extra cost is a wash. However, if a Testarossa has more repair issues, such as the dreaded differential problem, then the ownership costs of the Testarossa may indeed exceed those of the 512TR.

    5. The real reason- the first one I drove was the 512TR I bought. It was black, it drove like a beast, looked like a beast and the sound. The Sirens of Homer’s Odyssey had nothing on this enchantress. I was doomed. Remember there is no logic to buying a Ferrari. Logic in buying a Ferrari only exists to convince your wife on the merits of such a purchase. The good wives know you’re full of it and just shake their head and smile at the child before them. It’s that inner child that is the real reason you chose any Ferrari.

    Buy what you can afford and are willing to enjoy while driving.
    No use have any of them if they need to look good in the garage.
    With that said, the tr with the single mirror will always get my vote.
    Every kid around the world had that poster in there room somewhere when it first came out. The rest are just copies of that.
