So does anyone know about this collection? I have never seen any of the planes but always heard about it. All planes are in running condition and are kept at a hanger at San Antonio Airport, as well at Twin-Oaks Airport in north San Antonio and at a Ranch in south texas. Guy has quite the car collection also.

    Apparantly has,
    F4, B25, F8, ST3KR, P38, Sea Fury FB II?, NA-50, FG1D, F-51, SR22, another F8, Spitfire, F7, several Cessnas, another F8, Eurocopter, several Robinson copters, P47, CF-5D, a Tigercat F7 and an AT-6G

Any other info on this collection? I dont know what half the planes listed are but from what I've heard they are nothing short of amazing.

The collection is split between SAT and his ranch, generally.
There are no warbirds at Twin Oaks, and if you saw it you would know why. I've flown out of that place once in a 170 and didn't think we'd make it. Think of a wide sidewalk about 2000 feet long sloping downhill with houses all around.

Odd, on flightaware it has a lot of his planes going in and out of there. Have you seen the collection? Our ranch used to be by his and he would fly his helicopters A LOT.

That's pretty funny. It is common, though, to see his P-51 landing at SAT on final over US 281N. His hangar complex and office building are there.
This is Twin Oaks, just north of SAT, looking SE at the runway is 1.9% downhill in this view (!!). Remember: it's 30 feet wide - less than the wingspan of a Cessna 172 (35'10"). You have to call SAT tower for permission to take off and land EVEN THOUGH THEY CANNOT SEE YOU. Would you fly your Grumman Tigercats or Glacier Girl P-38 out of here?? ;)

Ha, I've always wondered about that airport. How is it even still operating? I used to drive by it all the time and had no clue it was there. Does someone in the area own it and its pretty much his private runway???

I might try in an L-bird, but the only fixed wings this ol' chicken might feel comfortable in would be a Maule or Pilatus Porter. That said, I have a friend with a Cessna 170 that lives in one of the houses there and flies out regularly. Apparantly the local convention in most winds is take-off downhil on 12 and land uphill on 30.

Seth - yes, it's right there off of Heimer behind the trees on the SE side - there is a little gate. It is, as I remember, owned by one guy, although there are several planes there. Famously, a guy wrecked a Bonanza (!) trying to use Twin Oaks.

Back to Mr. Lewis' collection, I've not seen it myself as it is not open to the public. Here's a photo someone did shoot of a part of his collection at SAT:

Rod Lewis has more warbirds than God. He now has 2 Grumman F7F Tigercats, 2 stock Bearcats, Glacer Girl, Mike Browns 3350 air racer, Rare Bear F8F Bearcat 3350 air racer and many others. I know that he is bringing 8 planes to the Reno Air Races this year....thats an entire row just to himself. Rod is a super nice guy.

Wow, very cool pic, I used to only know about his car collection, then his daughter mentioned he had a "few" airplanes! I then asked around and nobody was really sure of the collection, then by chance I checked the N-number registration and sure enough there they are!
