But, whatever the reason(s), Hamilton was only "rather average" at McLaren against Jenson Button. Again, nothing against Hamilton, but Button beat him in 2011. I still think that the best of Lewis seasons was the first one (= 2007).

    Exactly
Prost insisted on Senna joining Maclaren in 1988.
    Honda wanted Piquet instead.
Prost believed that Senna represented a better future for this team to which he was emotionally linked.
The 1994 story is the absolute truth too.

Don't forget keke Rosberg and Damon Hill too.

After the terrible year 1982, Prost decided to drive at 80% of his possibilities to survive ( his own words) and managed to win four world titles.
Such an achievement i would say !

Hamilton outnumbered Button, in wins and poles, and Button was a WDC in his prime. Atleast we had the chance to see Ham match up with WDC's unlike some past champions.
2007 is one of the greatest rookie seasons, but the best i've seen Hamilton drive was 2018. The speed, consistency and error free driving was tops, hadn't seen him replicate that season, not sure if he can.

It might be argued that Button was simply in the right car at the right time when he won his WDC.

You can say that for 99% of champions. Button's team mate was also in the right car at right time but couldn't win WDC, so i say Button is a legitimate WDC.

Yeah but Hamilton only lost to him through bad mechanical luck, and of course Rosberg was good enough to see M Schumacher off ...

The haters complain about Hamilton not proving himself against anyone, but I'm struggling to remember a driver who has had more seasons with a WC teammate.

I dont know Mansell to do that but it was acrimonious.
    Just my opinion of Prost.

I was not implying that Buttons WDC is not legitimate, I was arguing that his car was simply superior (double diffuser and all that rot) that year.

Hamilton is the most successful driver at the moment.
How can we ignore his achievements and not mention him in any F1 discussion ?
In F1, he is the elephant in the room !!!

Hunt would probably be banned from racing today after failing a drug test.

It's not rewriting history. Your phrase "Prost won over Senna" implies that Prost defeated Senna more than Senna defeated Senna. Senna won in 1988, Prost won in 1989.

Have you seen in which circumstances Senna won his title in Japan in 1990 ?
I don't call that "defeating Prost", rather assaulting Prost.

Lyon- not saying senna was right, but in his mind it’s payback for what he perceived is the injustice of the previous year

A very contentious, or disputed, man; he had a troubled past during the second World War (granted, he was not alone in the matter...) and after.
I always wondered how he managed to became the F.I.A's chief...

    Rgds

(N.B: Not to derail the thread, but for those reading french, have a look at the french wikipedia article about his WWII period...)
