Top five at the moment ? Hamilton Verstappen Vettel Leclerc Bottas They are the only ones who can fight for a win now. Their present form don't put Ricciardo or Kimi in that league anymore.
And you do not think this might have something to do with the cars they are driving??? Gesendet von meinem SM-G930F mit Tapatalk
Bottas is a good driver (and a great guy), but I don't think there is anything special about him. The mercedes is a rocketship and tends to flatter drivers.... Heck, even Stroll would shine.
And do you think there's not a reason the team bosses of these cars secure the absolute top drivers available? Mercedes has the pick of ANY driver. They choose Lewis. Next topic please, as this one is now settled.
As expected, It irritates some people to see the name Hamilton among the top five list. Quite predictable, I would say. And when I see the suggestion that Stroll would be as good as Bottas in a Merc, I can see to what level this conversation is heading !! Lance is already not capable of driving to the limits of his car, compared to Perez; so I cannot see him dealing better with a car with higher performance.
Aha.. how was Mercedes in the position to choose any driver when they signed Lewis? They were nowhere near they are today. So obviously nothing settled [emoji57] Gesendet von meinem SM-G930F mit Tapatalk
Well, that's one way of looking at it. Another way would be there's no one better to be had. Discuss . . .
I wouldn't be surprised to read here that Mercedes should at least have tried Alonso; some people think so much of this guy ... LOL
Why would they not? He got the job done so no need to change... but that does not mean that there are not a few others around who could have done the job just as good... So when somebody says the car is just as good that all top drivers could have won in it all of the sudden it is a proof for Lewis bring the greatest just because they signed him. Reminder: back then Mercedes was a midfielder and Alonso was still on the mission to win the WDC with Ferrari and Vettel was sitting in the winning car, so no intention for them to join Mercedes Lewis one the other hand was not happy at McLaren anymore and he got the chance to change from a former works team on the descent to a full works team putting a fortune into F1 so he was there at the right mood at the right time, that's it. I doubt that by that time when beaten over a three year period by Button on points anybody at Mercedes thought that only Lewis can bring the success as some here think. At this time not even the hard-core fanboys of today thought they have to tell us every week how great he is, they were dead silent... Gesendet von meinem SM-G930F mit Tapatalk
Elton has the favouritism within the team, even when Rosberg was on the way to his championship, Toto tried to undermine him to the benefit of Elton. Mercedes can’t help themselves. If any driver took Elton’s place, they would get the very same results, some (Alonso included) would better them. If Elton remains, they would be limited to also ran status and stuck on a one year contract, having to be happy wit a guaranteed second place in the car, a la bottles the butler. When Elton was hired by Mercedes, no one else wanted the dipstick, despite him wanting out of McLaren a year earlier and having to wait for Mercedes..... thee were no other world champions at the time out of contract that they could have hired, so it’s unsurprising by default they hired Elton. Since then, he has been lucky enough to be sat in the most dominant car in f1 history, with an employer that has the most political prescence in the sport, and a contract that says he is number one. Why is it hard to understand that he wins all the time? The stupid thing here is that ferrari fans accept he is a winner every week, who gives a ****, but his fans want everyone to think he is god and won’t put down the bone, and he simply is not. He is a good driver, in the very best car, with NO challenge in the majority of races due to the rules and regulations being what they are - a homage to Mercedes
So after Vettel now Alonso is a looser... Seriously you have lost the last bit of credibility that was left and it just reveals the double standards when you complain about others "dismissing the achievements of multiple WDCs" PS: William obviously edited his post to take out the looser part [emoji57]
Rosberg was told to move over at at least 1 gp that year when he won the title. So 100% on the money.
I agree with John Surtees's assessment of Lewis: he is the better driver in the best car. Enough said.
All I can say is that Hamilton's promising career really took off when he joined Mercedes. The fortunes of Vettel and Alonso have been nose-diving since. Coincidence perhaps? Both Alonso and Vettel have failed Ferrari in succession. I am not interested in speculating if they would have done better at Mercedes; it just didn't happen !!! I have seen that even Ferrari fans on this site are not following Vettel too much lately. As for Alonso ... he looks for easy pickings these last 2 years, like certain wins at Le Mans, etc ....
